Cotm Rules

NoAIPatrol Setting:

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the barb behavior in C3C and how the NoAIPatrol flag controls that behavior. For the COTM competition it is highly recommended that all players set the NoAIPatrol flag to 0 to permit fairly consistent barb behavior across all player's games. This is done by opening the "conquests.ini" file in your favorite editor, adding the line "NoAIPatrol=0" to it, and saving.

Original Post:
Looking for 2 or 3 players. I've never done a SG and would like to. I know there aren't a ton of active folks around these days but there are still some greatly skilled players and I'd enjoy playing alongside any of you :)

I have played on DG. On Deity I generally get into problems right at the end of REXing. I have trouble with military every time. I'd like to do an SG focused on military to learn what I'm doing wrong!

That being said, ideas:

Standard Map ... Militaristic Civ ... ?

I like China for its industrious trait, but am open to anything really. Whatever those that can and will play would like.

I would be willing to play.

As a warning, I just got my C3C disk and haven't had a chance to play yet. Untill now, I've only had PTW. I am a comfortable emperor level player and I can beat Deity on PTW given a half-descent start. I would be willing to tackle DG, maybe Deity. Don't think I'm up to par for Sid yet.

If I'm in, I have nothing against China. I haven't played with the new triats/civs yet, but I tend to think industrious/ag might be the way to go. Militaristic is nice in some ways, but I think we can make up the difference in Elites by careful warring. Maybe the Mayans? Not sure if there are any other choices.

As for settings, I'm good with just about anything. Because it is my first C3C game, I'd prefer DG, but I'm open. I'll even play Sid but ! No hard feelings if I don't fit, just let me know.

I'd love to play, but I'm going to be out of pocket for a few weeks starting this saturday and then go off to college in September. So during August I could play, and a month is about as long as is needed to play an SG.

Sid is a big jump from Deity, a much bigger jump than Deity is from DG, because the AI build rate goes from 6 to 4 as opposed to 7 to 6. Also, the AI gets two free settlers (which is ridiculous) instead of one. Sid is just really, really hard and doesn't allow much freedom in strategy. Although there seems to be a group of players who can beat it pretty regularly, I am not one of them. I have a few wins, but with very good starts and a lot of luck.

My philosophy is that the civ you pick doesn't matter unless you are doing some crazy hard variant or specific challenge--eg if you are going for 80k points you need to be the Mayans, or if you are doing AWS on islands you need to be the Byzantines. I'd prefer Random, but China is a fine choice, so we can go with them.

@ Raliuven: Perfect we are in the same boat here -- id be MOST comfortable in DG. I've also never played with Mayans and would be interested and giving them a run. Don't be mistaken I am very far from a pro :P

@Own: Would you be good with DemiGod? I like the idea of random civ too, that might be fun...

Are both of you okay with a conquest or domination victory as the goal? We can revise if situation makes it impossible during the game of course.

I'm completely open. I usually play with a random civ if I am doing a solo game. Conquest/Dom sounds fine by me. It is about the farthest from my comfort zone - I'm a natural builder. But I am adaptable! Big problem with me is that I don't use Civ Asst, so I always trip the darn domination limit before completing a conquest.

I am willing to join, DG or Deity, if the Mayans then Deity though, they are a powerful civ with their traits

DG or Deity with Mayan seems to be the most supported here. I've never played as Mayan so that would be fun and I'm down for it.

So do we go DG or Deity?

I think the consensus is:

Random Civ = DG
Mayan = Deity

I'll take whatever you pick. If it is a vote, I favor Random Civ on DG.

Potential Roster:
- GZRD
- Raliuven
- Own (available August)
- del62

Potential Game Conditions:
- Standard Map
- 70% Continents Temperate, etc.. (Defaults)
- Random Civ, Random AIs
- Demi-God
- Conquest/Domination as VC goal

Barbarians?

Are we taking the first roll?

I haven't run any maps/starts if thats what you mean. I'm in no hurry to start, would like to make sure everyone is happy with the set up.

@Own ~ assuming we DO start before August, are you cool with jumping in when you get back? Not sure how fast things will move between now and august...

I wouldn't have a problem with doing a DemiGod game in an SG format, so I would like to join up.

I okay with whatever the group wants re: barbs. I usually play with them on, but I've got no love for them. GHs will be near useless for us. Barb hunts will give some quick 25gp bonuses later in the game.

First start, choice of starts, I've no strong feelings.

Rules? COTM rules?

Oh absolutely. Please begin without me. I wouldn't demand that someone else's SG sit still for 3 weeks.

Okay I think we have a good roster... I'll go ahead and update the top post with roster and tonight I will post some possible starts.

Conquests with 1.22 patch.

As for barbs, how about Restless?

COTM rules should be fine, and restless barbs seem reasonable.

Okay first post updated. I'm going to roll a few starts now.

I will do 5, and we will vote on which to play as, okay?

I would say none are better than mediocre, but the Babylon could end up being best with exploration. France is best if we settle in place, even with all the plains. India would have been good.
