Single Player bugs and crashes v40 plus (SVN) - After Oct 2019

So many programmers have thought to try to improve what I set up there and usually they just end up breaking something - it's very complex and even beyond me at this point to be able to easily fix. I'm hoping someone remembers trying to refactor something that would have had an effect like this. It's very strange what you're explaining I feel.

I don't usually like to use it on group selections either though. Better to individually select units for this I find. That's likely an issue when you just upgraded though.

I've only really started to struggle with it since the problem of clicking on a city once to bring up the units is now sometimes activating Every unit in that city. Strange behaviors over popped up over the past month and 1/2 or so.

And I do use the Blue Shield for those units that only get 1 or 2 choices from the Red Shield. And why do dogs Not get the fortify choice? But only the restful recovery or escape choices?

Because they cannot dig in and use advanced intelligence strategies like holding gaps in a wall, hiding behind battlements for cover, or focusing on forcing the attacker down terrible paths of approach etc- they stay mobile rather than standing their ground and trying to create a strategic kill zone etc... Like mounted, they don't get ANY defensive bonuses so they don't qualify for fortification.

In the Army, as a trainee, I got a pretty good first hand feel for what 'fortification' in the field actually means and yeah, it's really effective and way more advanced than a dog benefit from even if well trained. Might be interesting to make it possible to train them to be able to get def bonuses though - that would be an interesting new tag for promos.

Hopefully someone knows what started causing this or can help us to hunt down the actual revision because this stuff is super complex to try to just step in and fix - would be easier to see the changes and how it's coming about as a result.

Hi all. Redownloaded recent SVN.
Abandoning city from city menu gives negative gold (seems it is sum of all buildings but negative). And clicking this button if you dont have enough gold makes you have negative gold.

OT: Good to know you are a Vet! :thumbsup: And a fellow US Army one at that. :)
It was in those years that I played Civ I till my fingers bled.

:lol: The computers I saw 5 years after I ETS'd, at the Univ of W. IL, filled a huge room in the basement of one of the buildings and ran on 1" magnetic tape on 15" reels. Cobol Professor still demanded we students use punch cards when a new set of CRT Terminals had been added to the Computer Print Out room. Would have made learning Cobol so much easier if she had had her head out of her posterior. Did all 3 classes of Cobol students that semester a Huge disservice. I truly think she was getting some kind of kick back from the Punch card supplier. :crazyeye:

I have a CTD situation here.
Game version is: v40.1.2836 - 2020-09-30
Save attached. Hit end turn and CTD.
@Desolator ,
Try Updating to SVN 11227 if you have not done so already.

Yes, the game was started and played on SVN 11226. (~15 days "old" version)
I updated to SVN 11227 (CHANGELOG.md says: v40.1.2847 - 2020-10-04), loaded the save, but the CTD still occures.

I don't understand what was "useless" that I posted. (This thread's first page says: include (1) save, (2) minidump, (3) Python.Err file)
What should I post then?

Nah don't worry, you did it right! Raxo likely misread your post as reporting default 40.1 instead of the corresponding SVN number (a bit more helpful to us), whoops.

Does the CtD prevent your game from progressing/is it repeatable/unavoidable? I'm not the best person to look into these, but if it's blocking your game I can give it a shot.

But the CHANGELOG.MD file does not have the SVN number, nor does the ingme flag hover text. (So if I want to check the version I am cuttently at, where shoud I look?)
Yes it is repeatable and unavoidable. I tried moving differently, deleting units, but it still CTD, it blocks progression.

Thank you all!

@Blazenclaw
I know that, but I was trying to say that if you update your SVN (the working copy) but do not export it to actual gaming copy, then the SVN log will show "false" number.
(Is tehere a file in the "exported" mod directory that shows tha actual "playing" SVN?)

Ah, I see what you're saying. I don't think so...? The SVN log may have a corresponding version number so you can go backwards in that direction, but tbh, doesn't matter that much as long as we know it is a relatively recent SVN instead of something from a year ago ^.^;

Alternative is to play directly from the SVN folder without doing the export stuff, any personal modifications you may have on your side could be backed up in case there's a conflict when updating SVN, that way you can do SVN clean up and then compare your modified files from the backup with clean SVN to figure out what the conflict is.

A suggestion that "sometimes" works. In your save games for this game go back to last save before CTD and play from there now that you have updated to SVN 11227. This 'sometimes", not always though, will let you get past the "bad combination of data" that caused the CTD. I have went several saves back before to get past a CTD. With some luck.

I d'l'd your save but did not have time today to try it. Will do so this evening.
