Single Player bugs and crashes v43 plus (SVN) - After January 2023

As far as I understand there are THREE types of non-standard units now:
1. Heroes. Can only exist once-per-game-per-world. Unique to the level of being irreplaceable (can't build a second one after the first one dies).
2. Cultural units. Not sure how it works now, but I remember that in the past they were "limited" in the sense that their cost increased with their number-in-play. Or something else as well?
3. Special units. Tribes (Prehistoric Settler), Missionaries (religious and economic), Warlords/Nobles, maybe some others? Limited to a max-number-at-any-given-time-per-civ.
So it's a bit unclear which of those are "National" units that would be massively-buildable-with-a-max-count-limit, lol.

2 are, or were at least, limited by a count and they were the main thing you were turning off the limits on. But there's also:
4. Criminals which have unit limits
5. Hunters which have unit limits
6. Recon?
7. Strike Teams seem to have often had unit limits
8. Merchants were usually given unit limits

All of which are not limited with this option on. It was always my theory that there should never have been hard limits on them because they aren't really imbalancing, just potentially spammed. Some core work on unit spam problems has been a big focus when Flabbert is engaged with the modding lately. I THINK he's made some progress on that but I'm not sure how much carry through there has been because he seemed to be getting work done on the brokerage system and then got a bit off-tracked by further desire to improve architecture of the code itself to make it more possible to make those improvements. I haven't seen Toffer in a bit lately unfortunately.

btw, I updated to the latest SVN, and now my save file can't be loaded. Are SVN updates supposed to break saves?
Depends on what version you are updating from, what revisions your had before updating.
You can check your C2C SVN revision number by right clicking the folder and selecting "TortoiseSVN → show log" your current revision will be in bold text in the list.

I deleted all files and grabbed fresh files from the svn and it still spawns the ai with over 8000 units.

keep getting this notice:

File "CvMainInterface", line 5474, in handleInput

Since I got involved with crashes...
Not the first time I get a stupid following situation:
I start a new Custom Scenario (whatever weird name it has now) based on the Duel-sized Space map that I trimmed to not have Space in it (which ISN'T the problem).
My Game Options include stuff like Barb Civs, Barb Cities, Neanderthal Cities, etc. - which I do think are somehow the culprit (of an unresolvable LOOP during map creation).
So, what's the problem?
I start the scenario, get the "loading bar" going on... and on... and on... until 2 minutes later I'm pissed off enough to just close the game and try again.
Except... I can't - the game LOCKS itself from being terminated (and I can't switch to Task Manager, despite being able to open it).
So the only thing that WORKS - I need to SIGN OUT of my computer account, THEN it kills the game process.
The double heck?
First, what's going on in the loading process to begin with?
Second, how come it locks the program focus on itself (thus causing the whole SIGNING OUT nonsense as a side effect)?
Any help?

you forgot to change size reference in map (x=width, y=height)

Like I said, no, because it DID work previously.
I literally had been playing a slightly different build (key point difference being options related to Barbs and Neanderthals) on the same map like a week ago.
And that wasn't my first game on this map either.
It's clearly NOT the map file at fault.
Anyways, why would the loading process LOOP like this, and how is it preventing me from switching to other processes?

Then you removed too much or too little or part of line breaking map file

Dude, what part of "it has worked fine several times with the SAME unedited between uses file" did you miss?
It's clearly something in the Game Options that triggers a LOADING error that then locks the exe in a dumb way.
It's NOT map file related whatsoever.
Unless (I mean, if it IS file related) it's something RANDOM that only happens once in a while, but that makes exactly zero sense.

EDIT:
Or not...
I checked the map file, it didn't have the [BeginGame] section, so I copied it from another map - and now it loaded fine, with the same Game Options that it crashed before.
Which is still confusing and weird.
And still doesn't explain why a loop is preventing me from switching to a different program - that one is more of an Exe issue, and baffles me entirely.

The neanderthal units that you can get access to from the Culture (Neanderthal) world wonder seem to be able to attack without declaring war, and the AI clearly doesn't understand this. They don't treat it as an act of aggression at all and they won't run away when they're outclassed either. I'm not sure if this is intended behavior or not but it seems that you can build that wonder and then just roll through whoever is in your way with superior units and 0 diplomatic repercussions. The AI won't even prep for war because they don't know it's happening.

Edit: Also the NPC Neanderthals seem to think my Neanderthal units are friendly? I can't tell because the NPCs are always kinda schizophrenic but they seem to be more chill than usual. Although I can attack them.

That, too. But I was talking merely about Strength alone.
Also, only one unit has this broken feature - Neanderthal Warrior (Strength 4).

Good that it's just the one I guess. It's kind of funny but also a little bit annoying that I can't walk onto tiles with other units on them if I don't want to have to fight my way through.

Apologies if this is in the wrong Forum but I don't know if my Point 2 below is a Bug or my error somehow.

Playing Steam C2C v43.7450 - all seems to be working ok - have many save files.

Decided to update via SVN to latest version 11563 v44 Beta dated 2023-11-12.

Updated from Tortoise SVN to a blank Caveman2Cosmos folder and placed inside the correct Mods folder.

1 ) On running the latest updated version I find the save games are incompatible - I get the message " Save format version is not compatible version =(3) expected version =(4) !

2) On commencing a new game under V44.Beta .7857 ( according to the Empire info ) I notice that when choosing an Empire/Leader that all the different Leaders Traits are missing . After each name there is just [ ] with no traits shown for any Leader..

Is it me or a Bug ?.

DavidR

P.S. Ok - it was me - tweaked a few settings including Leadership options , started a new game ( again ) and lo and behold , the Leaders traits appeared . As this Beta version is not compatible with my saves I will have to start all over again , again.

1. Saves are broken on SVN - that is no continuing game from moddb
2. Did you start game without positive and negative traits?

raxo2222,

Thanks for your reply.

Point 1 ) - noted , thanks

Point 2 ) - yes I do believe that I when I updated to the latest SVN that the leader traits must have changed from what I normally use.
I did go through all the options again and changed them to my normal preferences and that meant not having any positive / negative traits for my Leader . I have commenced a new game and each Leader on the start screen now has traits shown.

Probably me ( again )

Have just started new game(s) under SVN 11564 so don't know if the items below are Bugs or just me being simple.

1) .I have noticed in my current game that when there is enough culture available for the first expansion of the borders , the borders of my first city did not expand , remaining the same original square with the same tiles . The only thing that altered was the message that my empire was now considered ( miniscule etc ).

2) I don't know what has happened but in previous games under previous SVN's in the top right hand corner was the number of turns completed / total number of turns in the game ( eg 346 / 20000 ., playing at snail pace ) . this could be changed to show turns as a percentage.in the BUG options
Now , however in my current game under the latest SVN , I can only see the current turn number eg 346 and what ever I click in the BUG options I cannot get the game to show the information which I had previously .

Can anyone advise what I am doing wrong or have I clicked an option at the commencement of the game that causes the above problems.

Many thanks

DavidR

PS. Re Point 1 ) Sorry it was me again being simple . I had ticked "Realistic Culture Spread" in the options , which can limit the expansion of area around a city.. Still not sure though of the clock problem.

Using the latest SVN and I noticed that the problem where you cannot harvest resources around a fort is still present. Thanks.
