Bad news everyone, it appears that, despite being programmed for the weakest hardware system (XBOX 360) first and foremost, it appears that we will all have to upgrade our rigs to play Skyrim because it looks a zillion times better than Oblivion did /sarcasm

Although the min reqs for PC is still better hardware than the XBOX 360 has.

Minimum:

Operating System: XP/Vista/7
CPU: Dual Core 2GHz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Video card: DX9c, 512MB RAM

Recommended for "High" settings:

Operating System: XP/7
CPU: Quad-Core Intel/AMD
Memory: 4GB RAM, 6GB HD
Video card: DX9 1GB RAM (GTX 260/Radeon 4890 or higher)

Is that a sign that the port will be better in every way (instead of just gameplay and mods), or that the good folks at Microsoft's 360 department think the PC doesn't hold a candle to the 'box?

A well optimized game can look very pretty on a 4890. Way back in the day (you know, back in the ye olde times of 2nd quarter 2009) that card was no slouch.

I mean, did you guys want a game that made your 6 month old $250 graphics card obsolete?

Bethesda is not known for it's optimization...

Yeah, good point.

However, considering people can play Oblivion and Skyrim on the same console, wouldn't it make more sense if you could play Skyrim on a computer that was bought to play Oblivion?

Desperately want this, hopefully it will work on my cruddy PC.

Gonna run just fine on mine... :mischief: Wasn't even waiting for those specs to be released, I KNEW my "Monstro" can handle it no matter what nonsense they scribble in there...

Also it's easier for me to just have good old "Crysis" as a comparing tool. If my "Monstro" can run it on highest settings with highest AA with zero problems, then it can run... well... any game

I remember the good old days when you could get by with 800x600 and actually see the text on screen.

You PC guys will find any excuse to whine, I swear :p

Compare 1984 games to 1990 games. Compare 1998 games to 2004 games.

Then compare 2005 games to 2011 games.

Thanks long-lived XBOX 360. You're really helping us push the limits. Just like the overlong stay of Windows XP, you're really helpful in the development of technology and creativity.

I think the Xbox gets more blame for this than it probably deserves. Certainly multi-platform design plays a role, but I think a bigger factor is growing game budgets. Higher fidelity visuals are necessarily more expensive to develop; and the sad truth is that there just isn't a big enough audience out there to support a lot development of the types of games that take full advantage of today's high end PCs without increasing the price of games.

Certainly it would help if the consoles would refresh their hardware to create a larger customer base with high end capabilities, but that's only part of the picture.
