Skyrim - The Elder Scrolls V

Looks pretty neat, the pacing is a little off same with some of the animations but still better then the others but that's because it's kind of a mixture of the Morrowind and Oblivions openings.

Also some new kill animations and other neat things I did not know about. Though I wonder if the opening will be different if your not a nord

There are race relations (almost everyone likes their own and either other humans or other elves). It just means you'll get along with most people if you're a Nord. It also means you'll piss everyone else off if you're a Dark Elf.

You can search for a calender.

Or a calculator.

So since we're close to the release date, what are you people planning on doing first? Doing the main quest? Find the Dark Brotherhood? Just kill random people that you find unamusing (or amusing)? Just explore whatever?

Personally, I think I'll make seperate characters, one for the main questline, and another to villainize the whole place in general.

I'm definately giving the dual wield a go first-thing-first. Hopefully it's possible to use blunt weaponry for that as well as bladed weapons, perhaps mixing them? Still sad you can't dual wield shields though. I wish I could go all shield-barrage-only on everybody in that game.

I generally have an explorer character and then I revert to my old archetypes - Altmer wizard, Bosmer assassin, Imperial pugilist or Khajiit paladin. :)

Imperial pugilist is a pretty awesome sounding expression. Almost an alliteration too.

I always hesitate myself. Often my first character in a particular game is just a typical sword and shield fighter doing good and completing the main quest while doing as many of the side quests as possible. One of the reasons I often do "warrior" first is because they're a class that allows wearing a lot of different armors and weapons and you get to have many different looks throughout the game. However I'm thinking of breaking tradition and going "wizard-type" this time.

I played a Light-Side soldier/guardian in the two KotOR games and my first ever Morrowind character was a Dunmer warrior-wizard, so I completely understand the "good bruiser first" idea.

I almost always play some kind of Khajit acrobat/thief/archer. It makes for great fun in Oblivion for finding shortcuts up mountains and running past enemies to steal their orb. Though I guess it will be pretty hard to steal organs that way.

I found the vampire quest line awesome in Oblivion. I happily traded being a disgusting monster to the general populace half the time for my awesome super powers and my kick-ass horse.

I thought that Oblivion vampires, whilst much more playable than Morrowind vampires, were really not that exciting. Mods made vampirism in both games, though being an OB vampire was more fun for me.

I generally pick a sword and shield character first because they are almost always the simplest and easiest charachter to use. I don'e think I've ever gotten very far as one though, once I becom proficient with the controls I start again as a Mage or Assassin.

In countless games I never experienced anything other than the first "nice guy who uses weapons and armor" type character because I never actually get to have a second playthrough. I can't count the number of RPGs where I was like "oh man I can't wait to finish my playthrough with this good-warrior character so that I can try my evil-mage next"... Then promptly made a second character and played it only a couple of hours, my attention shifting to a second newer game... That even happened to Fallout New Vegas, I'm ashamed to say, although in that case I've been waiting for the DLC to come out in a whole reasonably priced package of some sort to finish my evil-maniacal-pugilist-explosives playthrough.

I definitely understand what you're talking about. But I had it only once. Not first playthrough in every game, but only one, my first ever playthrough in Oblivion. Which you can't really call a playthrough, coz I never finished it, wasn't even close. But the point is, I was a good Imperial sword and shield warrior all the way... From then on I found out I'm having more fun playing as a thief/assassin kinda characters (magic sucked in Oblivion) and as a female.

I also never finish my first playthrough, as it is pretty much a tryout for me, to get to know how everything/the world works.
I do have the same first "good" then "evil" kinda thing, except I'm never quite good, but rather... I dunno, neutral-ish, lesser evil :dunno: then turn complete :p:p:p:p:p

This time it's gonna happen in one (probably second, first is as I said a tryout) playthrough. First I'm gonna be more or less neutral, maybe join thieves guild, then "my heart is gonna go dark" so to speak. From there on dark brotherhood and of course my evil plans... Oh my wonderful plans, been planning it for months now... hard to be "good" with those kind of plans.

Just been playing through the Dark Brotherhood campaign in Oblivion, so I'm definately gonna give the "evil" character a go in Skyrim. Probably not the first time around of course.

I think I've finally settled on a archer/sneaky character, but not a theif. A Robin Hood style character, without the stealing. So my ideal race would probably be Wood Elf, or maybe a Khajiit. I might play as a different race though, just as an extra challenge.

I'm the exact same, the furthest I ever strayed was to try a Dwarf warrior in Dragon Age, instead of the standard human. For Skyrim, I think I'm going to try and go for a Nord 50/50 Warrior/Mage split. I haven't looked into the mechanics yet, so I'm not too sure how feasible it is. But that's what I'm gunning for at the moment. It seems like a good way to get a feel for the game as well as suited to the way I like to play.

Like most other open-world games, I'm going to do the first mission of the main quest, get distracted by everything else, and stop playing before I finish it. I had like three fully-leveled characters in Oblivion and only ever made it as far as the Siege of Kvatch in the main storyline. I love exploring and I'm an obsessive dungeon delver.

I played an Elf mage first-off in Dragon Age: Origins, but then I've always been a sucker for pointed ears and magic.
