Generally I wouldn't hold my breath for a Superman movie, but this one looks promising. Elysium and perhaps Europa Report looks kind of interesting too..

In 2045, the Earth faces extreme cold conditions which force survivors to live in underground bunkers. Their challenges are controlling disease and producing sufficient food. Two soldiers, Briggs (Laurence Fishburne) and Mason (Bill Paxton) are the leaders of one such bunker, Colony 7. Briggs, Sam (Kevin Zegers) and Graydon (Atticus Dean Mitchell) travel to nearby Colony 5 after receiving a distress signal, only to find it besieged by cannibals. Upon returning to Colony 7, Briggs must confront Mason who in the meantime conducts a hostile take-over of the bunker.

Spielberg foresees 'implosion' of film industry

He said the changes could come after several high-budget, high-profile film flops force the industry to be altered. "That's the big danger, and there's eventually going to be an implosion — or a big meltdown," Spielberg said. "There's going to be an implosion where three or four or maybe even a half-dozen megabudget movies are going to go crashing into the ground, and that's going to change the paradigm."

'After Earth' crashes at the box office

Ever since "Independence Day's" $50.2 million debut during Fourth of July weekend in 1996, Will Smith has been the undisputed king of the summer box office.
He's led films like "Men In Black"; "Bad Boys II"; "I, Robot"; and "Hancock" to massive grosses -- both domestically and around the world.
But his latest effort, "After Earth," landed with a major thud on opening weekend, grossing just $27 million (distributor Sony told outlets it was expecting $35 million before the weekend) and opening in third place with a tepid "B" CinemaScore.

I thought he was pretty good on Heroes.

Like several other notable characters on Heroes, he was a good actor trapped in a web of terrible and often incoherent writing (admittedly the writers' strike contributed significantly to this).

If Heroes only had one season, I think it might be one of my favorite sci-fi shows ever. It shouldn't have gone on like it did.

Here are legendary comic writer Mark Waid's thoughts on Man of Steel. I largely agree with him, as much as it pains me to admit it. I'll probably rewatch it at some point after reading that 1988 arc everyone is talking about, trying to be optimistic. But damn, after all my anticipation, I'm hugely disappointed. Looks like Thor 2 just became my most anticipated superhero film of the summer.

At least your favorite books/comics get made into movies. I fear that Ringworld or the Gaea Trilogy never will.:(

I quite enjoyed Iron Man 3, it was what I wanted. I'm a huge fanboi of the Destroyer armor, and so was sad to see it defeated so easily in Thor. It kinda soured me to the franchise!

Elysium will be out this August.

Link to video.

Not sure if it will be any good though. I dislike both its main stars, and from the trailer the story seems pretty much done already. Might keep a look on it though.
You don't like Matt Damon or Jodie Foster?

The story seems like a Star Trek episode I linked to earlier in the thread, it's true. But that story was also one of the most under-rated episodes, and one that they didn't flesh out nearly as much as they should have. I'm perfectly happy with the director of District 9 having a crack at it. It will be interesting to see how much of District 9 was talent, and how much a fluke.

I never really liked Damon at all... His role in the talented mr Ripley was ok, but not that great in my view. Good Will Hunting was less good, in fact i ended up not enjoyng the film at all but that was not as much Damon's fault as the screeplay which to me was very basic (i know the film is seen as a great success, i just did not like it).

Other roles of his i have either not seen at all (Bourne films) or liked even less.

Foster iirc became famous for a sex (rape) scene. I recall her in some major films like Contact. Seemed pretty boring to me.

In Silence of the lambs her role was good, but again not really my kind of thing.
