Do tell please Curt.

From that wikipedia thing:

"The Scottish flag is one of the oldest flags in the world, dating back to the 9th century. Legend has it that in c832AD King Hungus (or Angus) led the Picts and Scots in battle against the Angles under Athelstan. Hungus and his men were surrounded and he prayed for deliverance. During the night Saint Andrew, who was martyred on a diagonal cross, appeared to Hungus and assured him of victory. On the morrow a white saltire against the background of a blue sky appeared to both sides. The Picts and Scots were heartened by this but the Angles took fright and were defeated. The saltire has been the Scottish flag ever since."

Yeah nice story. There is a similar story about the Welsh leek. They were fighting the English in terrible wet muddy conditions. Everyone was so muddy that they could not tell their enemies from their allies. However the Welsh camp was situated near a leek field. The Welsh soldiers tied leeks to their helmets and the battle continued. I guess they must've won. I don't know how true that story is but it's quite funny.

The 4 quarters represent the different family estates which combined to form the town. The spinning Jenny represents the fact that the true inventor of the spinning Jenny (one of the catalysts for the industrial revolution) was born in Leigh
