Team Game - Isolated Pacal (Deity)

Interesting to see Asoka turning workshops into cottages :)

Vija is a nice prize, with Versailles, two shrines and the Mausoleum.

The culture from Lahore does not look like a big issue at the moment, since the Bangalore-Bombay route is still free. I think removing the Indian pressence in the north (Harappan, Agra) would be more useful, since it shortens the front and it means that the northern part can immediately become productive.

Should we build some airships?

Okay, attack route sounds good. We would re-declare in 2T, right? So, what if Asoka just signs peace with Gilga on his own? Possible, they have been fighting for a while. And those 15-20 Cav/Rifles of his recapture Bombay/Delhi while we can't cease fire? That would make me very sad.

Maybe one airship for scouting, but really we need cannons like Pedro says.

Possible, but at this point we'll be ahead of him in power rating, so we'll most likely be able to ceasefire before he does anything stupid.

Anyway, who wants to play next? Many lurkers here -- Sampsa, Anysense, Unas? Not sure if Dutchfire is still on a break?
Lots of travel coming up, so away from my civ machine.

So, main stack (currently in Delhi) goes Viji/Pata, secondary army made up of reinforcements goes Harappan.

Could play a bit until Bio or so and then re-assess. Unless Asoka/Giggles sign peace and trigger panic mode.

Before I continue... how heavy should I whip? We reach Bio soon, so Mayapan for example will actually have decent food. And every cannon now helps us. Whip or let it re-grow?

So 2T later, would like to declare now, but this stack makes me nervous...

Spoiler :

Now I don't know how it works exactly, but his stack seems to be doing nothing and could choose the option "Attack Bombay" if we declare now? And we can't hold against Artillery, not with 2-3 Rifles anyway. How to proceed?

Do you know if the stack was also there on previous turns?

Let the stack move first.
Bring some airships.

Edit: Could it be that the Indian stack is waiting for full heal before moving on?

This stack has been in there forever, and hee keeps reinforcing it, while Gilgamesh keeps stacking units close to this city. I don't see Asoka moving out of here anytime soon, at least not in our direction. He's not going to weaken his defenses when there's a bunch of Sumerian units right next to it. I don't know the code, but that's how it has always worked for me.

Please no airships -- ok for scouting if our spy dies, but otherwise we really don't need any -- they'll never pay off and we want more cannons. I say attack now. If both Vijay & Patali are weak, split the stack (I don't have the save opened right now)

Edit - and don't be afraid to whip more, research is not a problem anymore. Even the low-food cities. As you've just pointed out, Biology will solve regrowth problems.

Played until Biology

Spoiler :

Unleashed the dogs of war once more as discussed.

WK was bribed on poor Giggles. Asoka's stack didn't move.

Bombarding culture still the correct move here, right? Can't waste the cannons more than necessary.

Didn't like the Artillery in Viji, so didn't split stack. Splitting would have meant only 6 cannons per stack, longer bombarding. Meh, not sure.

Bombay put one turn into Forge and whipped it 4-pop, that ended starvation. Documenting this so you can point out if this was totally wrong.

Outnumbered on the waters, sent a Galleon on a distraction mission for his Frigates... protects Fish for Globe Theatre city + clears route for reinforcements.

(even both of his Frigates chased the single Galleon ~)

Ok fine, maybe slight overkill here.

Harappan falls, he would cease fire again

Vija

Protecting the Fish reliably

Jk, both Frigates died and we are outnumbered 10:1 now.

Still stalemete between Asoka and Giggles, which is the good news. Capitulation seems unlikely

"Bad news" is tech situation, we have Biology but nobody cares.

Power looking good, I suggest using the next Great General to promote amphibious war elephants and surprise attack Uruk as our next move, losing the capital should prove devastating for the Sumerians, strike fear into the hearts of the other enemies and basically end the game immediately. Success is self-evident, but for doubters I attached a document outlining the battle plan.

More seriously, maybe stop drafting Globe spot and get the GP out now? Can probably maintain 24T golden age, at least. Asoki could provide us with Communism. Massive civic switch, build Factories in golden age etc.

Only source of doubt right now... we can't really get Gilga out of that war. Would be sad if Asoki capped to him.

Thoughts?

Nice.

WK was bribed on poor Giggles
That's excellent -- will make Asoka much less likely to cap to Gilgamesh as he'll be weighing his power + WK's power against Gilga's power in the capitulation calculations now.

Totally agree with the elephant thingy -- attacking from both sides is very smart as he won't be able to bring reinforcements via sea. I have but one little demand: before you attack please defend all our coastal cities with mech. infantry.

Didn't look at the save yet, but if we have enough Rifles then yeah better grow Globe city and get a GP. With MoM we can launch a GA pretty soon -- with 24 turns of GA we don't have to wait until all cities are fully grown, as we'll have tanks before the GA ends anyway.

The naval situation is kinda annoying. It feels like a waste from a logistics standpoint to build frigates in conquered Indian territory though, I'd rather whip Cannons there.

I love how the AI builds Anti-Tank units.

Research: Assembly Line in the hope to trade it? From a military point of view Artillery is most important short-term IMO. Longer term Tanks are the main target.

When we've knocked out Agra and Pataliputra, the logistical situation improves a lot and the new cities can be productive. Will we leave Rotterdam for now and move our stacks south? Ceasefire after taking Agra and Pataliputra to give our naval operation some time to move safely into place, followed by a naval invasion near Lahore?

Some day we will want to play with Berserkers, natural amphi attack
Can we maybe do a "surprise" landing at Lahore?

Would sell Peri Lib for his gold, old & gone tech.
Sounds goody with working on GP from CI soon.

Please post something new, or did i hold this thread with my Berserkers ;)
Hmmm actually it's why i picked Grens in the Rags game, free c1 + free amphi = do you have any lightly defended coastal cities ?

I was kind of waiting to see if someone would play the next turnset. If you're still on a break and others don't feel like playing then I guess I'll continue (probably tomorrow or Sunday).

free amphi
Humm.. Do you count 110:gold: upgrade cost as free? :p
I can see some use to super agg-CR2-amphi Grenadiers, especially on Archipelago-alike maps where almost all cities are coastal, but for an iso game where less than half the cities of the AI you're attacking are coastal I just can't figure out a sustainable plan for those. It just looks to me like there's a better approach every single time. You'd have to show me a game where these actually beat every combination of siege, medieval units & drafted Rifles/muskets to convince me, but I doubt you'll find such a situation with an isolated start. Can't deny that doing everything from the sea looks pretty cool, though.

Played to capitulation (T204). Next turnset will require some major micro.
Spoiler :

T196.

Sell Lib to Pepe for gold as Fippy suggested.

EvCWuuG.jpg

T197.

Pericles declares on WvO

T198.

Patali falls. What are these horrible Drill-promoted cannons?? That’s really unnecessary when we already have Rifles..

mTNFr5i.jpg

We get yet another shrine.

JbwaSoE.jpg

T199.

We take Agra.

qArgR4B.jpg

The last Cannons are whipped on the mainland. Was a bad move on my part, should’ve canceled the builds and built wealth/infra instead 2T ago… When the war is close to an end, it’s important to ask oneself whether an unit will ever see the battlefield before whipping it.

Research slider at 100% towards AL.
We’re on top of the scoreboard.

T200.

Units land next to Lahore.

6plK0Ga.jpg

(Forget these "land T202" and "take T204" markers, they're the fruit of my horrible T196 overview :D)
Btw now you can see that Gilga has Destroyers and is gently cleaning up the Indian Frigates (and bombarding the defenses of coastal cities – couldn’t see why Lahore only had 25% defense bonus, this explains everything)

T201.

cKe73Kf.jpg

Nope my friend.

Another Galleon gets killed, some Cavalries attack Patali & retreat, no big deal as there’s no sign of his big stack.

Lahore falls.

pIhwToa.jpg

Big SoD leaves Delhi towards Calcutta...

rvdgchC.jpg

...leaving the former to endless starvation:

WFchWU5.jpg

(4-whipped a ball court there)

T202.

Gilgamesh makes peace with Asoka, who gives him Larsa in a peace deal. At least his stack teleported in the right place, will provide a fun last fight.

Gb1rwx7.jpg

Stack not as scary as it used to be, though.

GG is born. He is saved to be settled in IW or HE city (probably Delhi or another Indian city, Galleons unavailable right now anyway)

T203.

Asoka sends a few units at the big stack, but no big damage is done. Ready to take Calcutta & Capitulation next turn.

9oaculh.jpg

Not much he can do against that…

Giggles teching AL, but there’s nothing we can give him for that, and he won’t be friendly anymore after we vassal Asoka.

T204.

Calcutta falls.

TlNeRbD.jpg

Pretty lousy capitulation deal.

7a2glOC.jpg

(Need Poly for Litterature, Music might come in handy for build culture function & no need to care about WFYABTA at this point).

Units killed/lost:
N5unw0Z.jpg

8r7yqnX.jpg

We killed a respectable amount of units, but the war would definitely have been impossible without the Giggles bribe. Anyways, taking 10 cities in 25 turns was not bad.

From current position the game can be won pretty fast if someone is motivated enough to do the whole "transitional" micro :D.
