Terios - Signup and Worldbuilding Thread

A population composed of giant beetles : talk of being weird.

funny thing, the "griga"s are minotaur like creatures .. beetles beating Minotaurs. Weird ?

I suppose this is my time to sweeten the pot and mention that since this is a worldbuilding thread, diplomacy is actually already allowed... set the framework of geopolitics up as you wish, folks. ;)

Also don't be afraid to try and recruit friends, the more the merrier! We have 14 players... and there's plenty of room for more.

I've created a draft of the game's stats sheet. If you would like to clarify troop numbers, your economic setup, nation name or government type, please do.

For those without a nation name or government type, I'm specifically requesting you get me names/types by Monday. I'd like to avoid ???istan in this game. :p

well, is Terios the size of earth or is it much larger? the larger it is, the more outlandish the sizes are going to be.

Minor nitpick, the Dermul would be better described as a Confederal instead of a Federal Republic as the three constituent nations retain de jure sovereignty. Republic applies to the Dermul as a whole although one of the component nations remains a constitutional monarchy.

Link fixed.

Terios is the size of Jupiter by Word of God.

I'm setting you all at ten million people simply for convenience. Army sizes DO have in-game effects so I suggest not overdoing it. :p

well, then the "island" probably has all the landmass of Asia. since we did unify into a central empire relatively recently (368 Terios years) then the Empire has a relatively sparse population of 100 million.

oh by the way, i want to change something:

Mathalian Society

the Empire Focuses on Economics and technology, but the Military is rather small, as we didn't need a huge military...

so the Military size would be...around 500,000 people, slightly oriented to the Navy.

Baltik Economy:

As comes with living in a cold and unforgiving land, the Baltik economy is centered around survival. Whether this comes down to raiding, farming, or hunting, the Baltiks do it all; thanks to the climate and terrain, farming is difficult - if not impossible - in most places, confined to the southern part of their home continent where a handful of conglomerate farms export most of their food to coastal Baltik ports. Raiding the coastline of coastal tribes and nations - both on their continent and on the neighboring one - is a tradition of the Baltiks, and a large source of wealth and resources for the people. Raiding parties are usually led by a junior military officer and staffed by civilians - usually hunters or aspiring soldiers - and will attack sleeping villages in the middle of the night, stealing as much as they can before the village mobilizes. It is not unheard of for Baltik raiding parties to - accidentally or not - raid Baltik villages.

The other main drive of the Baltik economy is the continued settlement and exploration of their continent - and other lands that they might view as strategically or materially useful. The creation of new settlements is officially led by the kesjer, but is unofficially handed to whichever Province holds the most sway in the kesjer's court at that time. This has led to some... unusual borders, with enclaves in enclaves in enclaves at worst.

And, finally, there is the military; it is hard to determine the specific size of the military, as so many Baltik people serve in their own local militia and raiding parties, and most people define the military differently. According to the kesjer, the military is 1,000,000 strong (200,000 infantry, 50,000 cavalry, 500,000 sailors, 250,000 marines), including all official naval, land, and amphibious personnel. Other sources claim it to be up to 10,000,000 strong, but that includes all militias, raiding parties, and other paramilitary organizations not under the direct command of the kesjer or any of his subordinates.

The military of Romanora is 5,000,000 million Droid Soldiers. That is 0% of the population, since no Romanor is part of the army. Only Droids are used.

Oh dear. In that case the entire Dermul military budget will go towards a crack team of nerds to hack the 5 trillion droids to subvert them to our own ends.

That's actually pretty clever.

Until you factor in the massive industrial cost of an entirely mechanized combat force.

I think it was said in jest, though it did give me a few ideas myself.

Exaaaactly. Even if the population won't getcha, the amount of military upkeep would. :p

And I have it so large taxes/deficits cause crowding out, so tread carefully ye warmongers...

This is why the Necromancers will raise their army when needed then just simply keeping them around.

What happens when you need to raise an army but can't because they've all rotted into dust?

I'm pretty sure by the time a corpse has rotted to dust there will be new corpses to replace it. Not to mention they could embalm their corpses to keep them around for at least a thousand years.

EDIT: Of course embalming isn't an easy or cheap task so same problem with the droids, the upkeep of embalming every single corpse the population produces would drive your economy into the dirt.
