Terios - Signup and Worldbuilding Thread

There really is no hard limit on space; I'm going to adjust claims so they're more or less equal... I'm basically considering all these maps, the larger ones at least, to be more like an ideal area of expansion, or an area that country considers to be within its sphere of influence, than anything else.

I updated my post with more information on the most important cities in the empire, the rest will come later check it out

hey Tani, what other information should i disclose about the Mathalamus Empire and the lands it claimed?

Disclose whatever you want... when in doubt give some details as to how your economy is. Really anything you can say can be said!

Well i want to change my claims to be more reasonable:

(i dropped the southern Island)

Making a climatic map of the islands is difficult, as i was trying to make a Cyprus analogue (but clearly much larger), but the trees threw everything off.

Yay finally starting to transfer over to the NES!

Territory claims:
Spoiler :

Rest when I'm not as tired.

I shall not be change borders of my own accord. I find them reasonable, as you said there are to be approximately 50 nations. However, if you must change my borders, then leave me a narrow strip up the river all the way to the mountains/Highnest a la ancient Egypt. If this is not possible, then give me the river and mountain region around Highnest.

Economics:
The mountains around Highnest have many semiprecious minerals, as well as some precious mineral resources. Terium is present here as well. The river is plentiful with (insert fish, hippo, alligator, etc. animals here) whose skins and tusks are valued as well as the meat they provide. The many floodplains around the river create an abundance of farm and orchard produce that is unrivaled. The cities of Tallharbor and Westreach are great port cities of trade and manufacturing, the city of Fairbend has a booming university (I will set my nation 10 years ahead of my previous info post, making the university an established thing now) where scholars go to research, Breakriver is a great source of Marble (in the mountains and hills near it).

3 for IOT 2 for NES.

IOT it is!

As for my promised announcement:

The Mechanics of Terios

Mechanics are kept to a minimum specifically to hamper gaming and also shift emphasis to the story and roleplay of the game.

I don't believe any IOT has had this before, but this game runs on a relatively unused principle: budgets. Rather than money pooling into tech like a bank account, you instead designate how much you wish to spend on various fields annually.

On the military:

You can make it as large as you want to gain an edge in battles, but the larger it is the bigger strain it will put on your economy. As government spending/taxation as a percent of GDP grows things will get worse rapidly.

Troop number, troop quality and war plans are all factored into combat. When in doubt have a defensive plan in case you are attacked. Always try to factor in the terrain (large bumps are mountains, small bumps are hills, the small arrows are trees, thick lines are rivers) to make your war plans more effective.

On espionage:

With spies, simply designate a percent of your you want to do this or that each turn. Spies automatically are on defense if not assigned elsewhere. There is no limit on what you can do to other nations. Logically your chance of success or failure is tied to both the inherent difficulty of an act (compare assassinating a country's leader versus hacking the local power grid), and the quality and quantity of forces involved.

Fiscal Policy - the Orders format.

To speed up updates I request all players follow this orders format:
Army - Controls quality, useful in combat
Navy - Controls quality, useful in combat
Espionage - Controls quality, useful in combat
Education - Inevitably controls the amount of skilled labor you have.
Healthcare - Healthier citizens are more productive and live longer.
Infrastructure - Investments here cover transfer payments, roads, factories, power grids, etc. and more or less determine the market capacity of your nation.

Just put numbers, please. I copy/paste them into my spreadsheet and run them through the equations system. Enter 0 if there is no spending. So, as an example:

100
0
50
200
500
600

This is a simple request and will make everything smoother (since I can copy/paste the amount into my records). Once you have done that, feel free to add specific details as to where your investments are going, or touch on anything that wasn't already explicitly covered. The categories will cover most topics of government spending, but feel free to add anything not covered. Spending can be public or private.

I do keep records of how much you've invested into a field over the course of the game, so states that invest regularly will reap the benefits. Final note: you CAN use percentages. Due to the large numbers involved, your budget will almost always end with zeroes, enabling the use of percentages for spending (i.e. 10% army, 25% navy, etc).

And that's it! Any questions are welcome. I plan to start the game on the day after Easter.

Due to the...uniqueness of my nation, can I say that the funds for "Education" goes into, say "Building More Robots Funds"? And similarly for "Healthcare"?

What about my military, as the Heros in the Trial of Heros would automatically defend The Empire, there really wouldn't be more than a couple hundred of heros, however these are the greatest warriors in The Empire, and if they defended it in one army working together you would be hard pressed to defeat them.

As for my nation (I will develop additional info for it later when I have time: I have been busy with essay work) I will need to set funding around necromancy and the undead.

Well, as I stated, it doesn't matter what one calls it, given that I'm asking for six numbers in a column. :p As in, don't put Education 100, Army 100, Navy 100, just 100, 100, 100. Remember, if there's no investments in something just put 0.

Once more the order is Army, Navy, Espionage, Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure. I copy/paste the values in this order, so please make sure you use it. :p

Aids with copy/pasting into my records.

I suggest anything faction-specific be stated below the six values given to me each turn.

I wasn't talking faction specific I was just wondering that IC education for my nation could be "Building More Robots". Well actually it is faction specific but not different mechanics or anything. I don't want to break Tani. :p

Well...

I guess healthcare reflects maintaining the undead and experiments in unlife.

Education of course covers the education of necromancers and so forth.

revoke reservation.

unfortunately real life stuff is burning up my time (as should be self-evident by the absence of a profile to go with the reserved spot) so I don't feel I can suitably be engaged in this particular IOT (as it seems ti will be) at the present time. I may join in later, but until then I shall be content with watching, and with possibly guiding chosen minions with my advice for my own inscrutable ends.

so how will you prevent us from putting 100 in every category? it is by far the most balanced path.

Healthcare for robots would be maintenance.

A couple hundred soldiers without one centralized command aren't going to do well against a united army.
You still need to feed them and equip them.

so how will you prevent us from putting 100 in every category? it is by far the most balanced path.
We will presumably have either a soft or hard limit on spending (where a soft limit allows us to go into debt to cover costs and a hard limit does not).

You can have as many or as few soldiers as you want, it's a matter of preference. Numbers, the terrain, troop quality, war plans, all play roles in victory.

I wasn't talking faction specific I was just wondering that IC education for my nation could be "Building More Robots". Well actually it is faction specific but not different mechanics or anything. I don't want to break Tani. :p

Works for me.

so how will you prevent us from putting 100 in every category? it is by far the most balanced path.

I won't. Spend as you will. Just know excessive debt WILL have negative side effects.

We will presumably have either a soft or hard limit on spending (where a soft limit allows us to go into debt to cover costs and a hard limit does not).

Soft limit. Spend as much as you want, just know that if a nation cuts its wrists too much it's bound to bleed out.
