In passing the Foreign Batton ... the outstanding issue is dealing with the D-Nut proposal ... I feel we need to act on this asap (ie before their next turn) ... as Chamnix rightly says the longer we stall on this the less valuable Writing is ...

Suggestions for the D-Nuts ... a perspective from an ex-Foreign Minister ...

Original proposal
MIA will give Warrior Code and Wheel and Ceremonial Burial for Writing

They assume that we are not researching Writing ... so when speaking to them it is important to use or adapt the following wording ... MIA will be getting Writing soon (this will imply to them that we are researching it atm) ... we should then ask them what they are researching

Then offer Wheel ... because we are concerned about their health as we believe that war and aggression is perculating in their continent ... and we feel potential friendship ... we then add some of the Lux and Contact questions ...

We can say we have met KISS and then ask if they have met TNT ... BUT silent about our special relationship with KISS !!!!

We can tell them we have Ivory aplenty (as they already know this) ... and find out what Lux they have ...

we can add Ceremonial Burial or Warrior Code to the deal ONLY if they have told us what they are researching ... and been open with their responces to our other questions ...

Then if they answer our question on when they will be finished researching their present tech ... we will respond that we get Writing in 8 turns

If they are honest and polite ... and offer a slingshot type of deal ... we should agree however we will await their proposal in writing via PM ... and then consult KISS and either bring them in officially or just keep KISS secretly in the loop ...

We have a rough proposal ready for any 3-way from KISS which could be sent after drafted properly ...

My impression they are arogant and assume alot ... KISS are open and trusting and have proven themselves ... D-Nuts have yet to show good faith ... see the last KISS chat for their thoughts here

i just realized that that deal isn't to bad, i mean writting is very valueable and those three techs, when they add up, are only slightly more than writting

Yeah don't give them all three techs ... or they will be miles ahead ... we have what they want ... they should be willing to deal nice with us ... or they are stupid

I think we should consider gifting Mysticism to KISS right away as a gesture of goodwill - they will pay for it eventually.

Lets get tough with them

They are at WAR ... we should capitalise this ...

I'd even go so far as to say that it is now upto them to show good faith to us ... and that while we are against aggression in all its forms and we support in principal their plight ... They should also be aware that we hear only from one side and require both sides to make an informed opinion ... this we hope, shall happen soon ...

In regards to KISS we could say that they are arrogant and that we travel along differing philosophies ... however they must make their own mind up ...

Not gifted yet ... thought we could wait to see what happens with Writing ... but will send if it is the will of the people ...

Yeah - so what is the plan with gifting mysticism etc - now that we've been beat to philosophy, that really throws off our whole trading plan, does it not?

We need to re-work that with KISS I'm guessing. (or do we still owe them?)

I think we are even with KISS right now - nobody owes anybody anything. Our next proposed deal was Masonry and Mysticism for Writing. It is looking (to me at least) like we will not get writing from the Donuts so we will want that deal still.

My reasons for suggesting we give them Mysticism now even regardless of the Writing situation - purely for goodwill and as a sign of trust. It has no use to them anyway (except it is eventually needed to escape the ancient age). As I said, I believe at some point they will repay us with a tech. If they are intending to cheat us, it would be better to learn that now with a cheap useless tech than later. I suspect that by giving them Mysticism now, they will probably gift Writing to us, then we can gift them Masonry upon completion. It really only serves to cement our positive relationship.

News Flash ... KISS have sighted TNT boarders ... will meet them next turn

I leave it up to them to tell TNT that they know us ... but mentioned it should be used only to gain additional intel since we already know who they have met ...

KISS has now requested Mysticism from us for their dealings with TNT, and we still have no response from Emperor Napoleon from my comment of 4 days ago suggesting we give it to them then. The Emperor has not been logged in for 3 days. The Constitution says "All dealings with other nations must be approved by the [Foreign] Minister" but at what point do we give someone else the ability to decide things if he goes AWOL? Telling KISS we would like to comply with their request but can't because our Foreign Minister hasn't appeared recently is pretty lame.

I don't expect this to happen in Emp. Nap's case, but suppose a Foreign Minister never returns? Do we go up to 20 turns having absolutely no dealings with other teams? I think after some period of time (not sure what) a position is "temporarily vacant", and the President (or the captain?) has to be able to make a decision in the place of the absent Minister (or Ministers - the same applies for Domestic and Defense).

Absolutely: We need to gift them mysticism now. The deal had been agreed to before Emperor napolean took office. We don't need the current foreign minister to formally agree to something that was hashed out in the previous term. Mysticism should be sent with the save ASAP.
