do you know women who have had abortions? if yes, was it an official procedure or done illegaly? what did they have to pay and did the spermally involved man pay half?

No. I did meet a woman who knew someone who'd had an abortion and had sent a message to the sperm donor asking him if he wanted it sent to him in a plastic bag. And it would have been a legal abortion - on the NHS so free at point of delivery. Long time ago.

Interesting thread.

Yes, AFAIK. There's a Marie Stopes charity that carries out abortions and charges £300-£600. So I suppose if you can't convince two NHS doctors that you need one for your well-being, then you go there.

As a potential sperm donor myself, I would be willingly to pay 100% if I was unable to persuade the woman not to have an abortion. It has, so far, never arisen.

Not to my knowledge, though it's possible that I do know someone who's had an abortion, but they don't telegraph that fact.

I know one.

Official.

I don't know actually about the pay, but the man was out of the picture by then.

A real gentleman pays for a lady's procedure.

Yes I know a woman who's had abortions. They were all legal, her husband paid I presume.

None of the women I know have said that they have had an abortion, but it's not exactly an easy topic to just slip into conversation and I don't really make it a habit of asking it of anyone.

I know few and since it's legal here - no questions asked until 12 weeks & with a doctor's permission after all were legal and official if one prefers that.
The cost is from few euros to ~75€ if there's no need to stay overnight in hospital depending on the method used. I don't know who paid for them but since no one has mentioned it specifically the cost & payment options probably weren't an issue in the process.

My sister had one once. No cost.

Yes, yes, no, social medicine, no (see last answer).

When my first real girlfriend broke up with me, the next time I saw her, she had had an abortion. I did not know that she had been pregnant, nor did I have any say in it (nor should I have). I was 15, so it was probably for the best.

I drove a friend of mine to the clinic a few months ago (not mine by the way). Couldn't tell you much as I pretty much just drove and could tell that shutting the hell up would be wise. I believe it cost close to $1000 and at the time, the guy wasn't going to pay a cent and he wasn't taking her calls. It was pretty average. But he came good eventually.

I couldn't help but notice though that the clinic appeared to be kind of tucked away. No signage or anything. And as the only male in the waiting room, let's just say I wasn't feeling the love. I don't think we are the flavor of the month down there somehow.

I don't think its necessarily that, more so that they were having a pretty terrible day. They probably were extra annoyed their partner wasn't there, an directing that anger at you.

I visited such a clinic once, all couples. A "nurse" came in and called out all the females, they left without a word. Small room, four guys, no words said, we all avoided eye contact, played with phones etc.. we had been given no direction at all. I didn't know if I was going to be sat there 5 minutes or 2 hours. I know the girls were going through a rough time, but I felt we had been pretty poorly dealt with too.

Turned out my partner wasn't pregnant and must have miscarried. I thought this a great thing, as the guilt of an abortion was avoided. Instead my partner was racked with worry. She didn't understand what had happened and it took a long time for her to stop worrying about it.

If "Procedure" weren't the most propagandist euphamism in the world, sure.

I would sure as hell never sleep with a woman who believes it is OK to kill our child, so thank goodness I should never face that situation.

No real gentleman would pay for his child to be murdered. He would do everything he could to prevent the horrible thing from happening.

Well done on writing a post where I agree with every word and disagree with the post itself. Bonus marks for the No True Scotsman fallacy.
