The Democratic Nomination

Who Will be the Democratic Nominee

  • Total voters
    39
  • Poll closed .
And in regard to this, I should think that sniffing does represent morally higher ground than grabbing.

Yes, what a rallying cry to turn out the millennials to vote for the Democrat

No, I know Biden can't do anything to do that, and so, as has been pointed out, it remains a liability for him, even though Trump gets to skate for a much greater version of it.

I have no doubt it would, but in that scenario it would have to blossom to over 50%. That's a harder ask. He was unable to achieve that last time against a historically unpopular candidate
And how'd that work out for Democrats?

Maybe just maybe people (and the democratic establishment) should support someone decent for a change instead of worrying about "electability"

Democratics choosing Clinton over the more "radicial" options proved they were too *meow* for actual radical change and thus they lost to a radical.

It would be awful, and I think Biden would be a good chance of losing (though given even Clinton came remarkably close to winning and won the popular vote by a substantial margin, I think the "Trump is set to win again" take is a little overrated).

My understanding of this thread is that it is asking who is likely to win, not who we would like to win.

That’s why I find the thread rather uninteresting. It’s just speculation and where deeply conned people get to post, sound and pose a little while reiterating what they heard on MSDNC to other less conned but ever more frustrated people.

I hope Bernie wins the nomination and then the general election.
He has good chances for both and - imo - getting the nomination may be the trickier part, due to the DNC.

Bernie-Ruffalo 2020 ^_^

I still wanna know where he stands on foreign policy. I was blaming Biden for the ills of the Middle East but apparently he was a dissenting voice for the 1st Gulf War (not the 2nd), Libya and Syria so he's the least culpable of the recent nominees (what happened to you, Obama?).

Where is Bernie? Do any of his supporters know how he stood on the last 3 decades of invading the Middle East? Iraq twice, Libya, Syria... Since he seems more aligned and allied with Gabbard I'm assuming he's not a neo-con but did he remain silent when Obama, Hillary and Kerry were lighting other countries on fire. Sanders has a frankness about him that might appeal more to Trump supporters.

eh, so does Biden to a lesser extent

Yang is pretty much a continuation of the status quo and a soulless capitalist intent only on staving off the inevitable

Bush, you forget Bush in this enumeration. And people like Bolton who had a say then and now. Sanders I guess never needed a foreign policy since as a member of parliament you usually chose your areas of interest and don't have to be knowledgeable on everything. But yes, I would like that answered as well.

It won’t supprise me if Biden is nominated for the presidential elections. Even if the Dems manage to pull the same stunt they did to Bernie and snubbed him.

I find it interesting as a way of looking at the way people receive and treat information.

Indeed! I was probably rather rash in that statement. (A US style pre-emptive attack if you will.) And the discussion is already and will naturally trend towards “who you want to win” – a far more philosophically interesting question as you, yourself is invested rather than “who we think will win” which is at best a game-like academic question. People are more affected by outside and preconceived influences on academic issues. There is no view from nowhere. Foucault called it “truth games”.

People who speak freely or from the heart are more interesting to hear, because unlike me referencing a philosopher or someone referencing a talking head on TV, it’s a fresher take. We know where and when and by whom the view came about. Catch of the day instead of processed and frozen. God forbid some conservative moderator drag discussion back to academia – then again maybe I should blame the OP instead.

I still expect Biden to win. He is very popular with the kind of people that this forums represents in no way, shape, or form, and he has been able to weather just about everything thrown at him. As much as we talk about Bernie's base, Biden has a very robust group of people who seem to be with him no matter what, too.

It's interesting how trump recognized Biden as his most probable challenger and gone to great lengths to uncover dirt on him. While Biden was expected to be frontrunner initially not many might have expected him to sustain it. Biden is the closest to a democratic trump though , and that might explain trump going after Biden.
I personally think Bernie has best chance of defeating trump . He doesn't have past skeletons in closet and is very likeable . He is good at putting his point across and attacking back . Warren has that DNA nonsense, fodder for right wing attack points and doesn't seem to be good at dealing with attacks . She might end up like Corbyn to Johnson with trump.

of all the candidates only Biden was in charge of US policy in Ukraine... And Ukraine interfered in our election, therefore Biden might be involved with uncovering dirt on Trump in 2016

payback's a...

Might be involved vs. proved to be involved. You choose.

Joe "I voted for 700 miles of fence" Biden. Guy was yelling at people and getting up close to people as he was bragging about it and being one of the architects of the crime bill. Whenever he speaks he reminds of Grampa Simpson going on a rant.

I think you have Warren and Sanders flipped. Sanders only became a Democrat recently and with the best will in the world, Sander's doesn't score particularly well on "Plays Nice With Others". The institutional Democratic Party doesn't particularly like Sanders and the amount of sniping and nitpicking on his candidacy from grumpy Third Way Democrats will sink Sander's presidential campaign and make him an American Corbyn.
Warren, on the other hand, is broadly similar to Sanders in what she can get done with an obstructionist congress (ie: who she will appoint to cabinet, judges, and the alphabet agencies) and the institutional Democratic Party likes her more as she is a better 'Team Player'.
Sanders would be far better on the outside, working to keep popular excitement high. One of Obama's biggest election mistakes was to allow the popular excitement to dissipate. He had assembled a strong and excited coalition, that was more or less allowed to wither/not used for state election; and the Democrats paid a heavy price for that.
