The great CFC chain letter part 2: around the world in 800 days!

You overestimate the power of shame on an anonymous forum.

Given this thread, I think you underestimate it.

Did I build a way for you to delete entries from the map contre? I forget, but either way I'm excited that this is moving again

You did. I updated it. I think you need to do the yeti icon thing though.

You can take me out of the path and just leave a marker. I will be including all my stuff when it goes to Zelig. Then you can add in Hobbs. He is in CA right?

I'm removing myself from participation in this, so do whatever you need to do and contact whoever you need to contact to do so.

I want nothing to do with any project here at CFC that wants to go around "shaming" people for things that they probably don't know the whole story about. You guys really think Valka intended for things to play out like this? I certainly don't. I'm not interested in discussing this or changing my mind. This is my last post in this thread and I don't want any PMs or other forms of communication about it.

Valka, mail the yeti to Zelig this week. If you don't have a picture that's fine.
Okay, guys, I get it. You're pissed at me, and you're entitled to feel upset. But as VRWCAgent said, you don't know the entirety of the CRAP SPRING AND SUMMER I've been having in RL.

I went into this with the best of intentions. I had the place picked out, and I'm the one who found the icon for the map. I went out and bought a camera... and then life went to hell.

If you remember, I told warpus not to hurry on my account, since I wouldn't be able to do anything right away. I told you I had surgery and had to recover.

It's been a hell of a time doing that, trying to get my strength back, coping with my father being in and out of the hospital, computer problems (my computer is my lifeline to the outside world - I HAVE to have one that's in working order at all times), and other things.

At least you know the yeti sent to me is safe. It's not lost between Europe and Australia. And yes, I've been trying to learn how to use this damn camera. Just because it's easy for you, don't assume it's easy for everyone. I'd like to see YOU do some of the stuff I consider easy.

And by the way... did Zelig ever bother to send me his snailmail address? NO. He did not.

So enjoy yourselves, and yes, I will get a picture when I can. What I'm supposed to do with the yeti after that, I don't know.

This would have been fantastic to know last week or last month or any of the other times I'd PM'd you or posted here.

What part of what I just said didn't you know? Zelig himself should have known he never sent me his address.

The only thing I want addressed to me in this thread is what I should do with the yeti after I manage to get a picture. I refuse to engage in any more arguments, especially with people who are saying I never intended to send the yeti on, or who throw other accusations and speculations in my face. If I see any more of those here, I will report them, along with the request that whichever moderator might have to handle such a report not be part of this project.

Heh yeah. Easy fix, I will do it when I get home. If I'm bored this weekend I might implement a "The yeti is in location: {dropdown}" functionality.

Whoa, this thread went all Jerry Springer on our asses.

My thoughts:

1. Shaming is wrong, let's not go down that road.

2. Valka had some legitimate issues, but I feel like she did not stay in touch nearly enough to update us on what was happening. At first when you were in the hospital Valka and had all those problems, I am not talking about that. You were out of commission and crap happens. Nobody complained then. But it's been months and you haven't posted any updates in here. I don't think we should be shaming you, we shouldn't be insulting you, we shouldn't be introducing any bad blood at all. But I don't think it's a stretch to say that it was a good idea to move the project forward, given how long we've waited.

3. I mailed you the package when I was done, even though you told me to take my time, because.. well, I was done. I had a lot of photos taken, my entry in the journal was added, and I just had no use for the package anymore. It was time to send it off to the next person.

3. I think going forward giving people 2 weeks might not be enough time. How about 3? I took 4 weeks personally and that should be more than enough time. But 2 weeks might make people scramble and panic.

4. I agree that everyone participating (next time) should commit to some sort of a "I will not take 6 months to send this off to the next person" pledge. And no offense to anyone, but if you don't know how to use a camera and need a couple months to learn - you should make a pledge to learn before the yeti arrives at your location. And if you're one of the first on the list or might otherwise not have time to squeeze that in - I don't think you should be signing up.

5. This situation has gotten nasty and I don't like it. I will speak my mind about things, but at the same time I'm trying to remain diplomatic. Valka, I don't want to argue with you about anything I've said - I'm being honest and that's just how things appear from where I'm sitting. You probably have a totally different take on it, but it'd be pointless to bicker about the details, at this stage.

6. I might mail a yeti to VRWCAgent for Christmas. Just so he feels bad and rejoins.

I'm in Missouri but don't add me to the list, I don't want to cause any disruptions and I have generated enough bad blood with just a couple of posts that it's probably best that I stay out. I had plans for the Yeti too, should've kept my mouth shut. :\

I'm fine with a 4 week rule.

Any rule is better than the current 4 months we're currently held hostage to, whatever the circumstances are.

To be clear, this is only a proposal - if people don't like the idea the obviously we don't have to agree to it. Consensus is king, eh? :king:

Personally, I'd rather see no time-limit rule if that means more people participate, but on the other hand if the tradeoff is only 4 people participate but the camera / object actaully succeed in a circumnavigation - I'm still on board.

And, to be even clearer, this is Contre's project. I'll respect whatever policies or decisions he thinks are necessary - even if that means no changes from the current plan. :hammer:

Nah, you sound like a very useful replacement. You're in if you want in. Let me know.

I think you should do it. The more the merrier. :)

Our new traveler has arrived in Albuquerque after a tortuous journey, but there is no rest for the weary. He will get two days rest then hit the road once more. Destination: Calagary.

Should I have the chance to catch our yeti standing still, and can snap a photo or two, what should I do with them?

Yes Hobbs! Join us.

Warpus, if you send me an image/copy/text of your journal entry, I will add it to the front of new one.

I will take Mr. Yeti to the post office tomorrow AM. He is off to Zelig. I do not know how long it will take, customs and all that.

I would suggest that the next two or three folks confirm that they are still interested in participating.

Unless other things are being reordered, it's

3. Zelig (Calgary, Alberta)
4. Lucy (Rhode Island)
5. Cutlass (Connecticut)
6. peter grimes (New York)
7. madviking (Virginia)

And then 8. VRWCAgent, who has opted out.

I'm still in.
