What do you think?

I think the casting of Zachary Quinto was inspired as he looks so much like Nemoy playing Spock its eerie.

I like Simon Pegg as Scotty too. Another good bit of casting.

Not sure about the guy playing the young Kirk. I mean, he looks almost 'too young'...I am not sure I can seriously believe that they would put this guy as a Captain of a interstellar warship.

Overall, the effects of the trailer certainly seem to be different than other Trek movies in times past. This almost seems to be a Star Wars kind of feel to the effects, with tons of crap flying around, than the stodgy old Trek effects with only a few ships engaging in combat.

Overall, I am very excited about the film, but am very wary of the Kirk actor. If he blows it, I will be very disappointed.

Yeah, Kirk looks like some weird dork.

But what ruined it for me (EDIT: apart from going to a daily mail website, I have to disinfect my computer and my eyes now) was the fact that they have transporters and amazing scientific advances yet Uhuru is still wearing what looks like a bra from Marks & Spencers. Surely they would have invented some sort of anti-gravity boob tube by then.

Hope JJ Abrams house insurance covers fanboy rage damage

Yeah, my thoughts too.

I'm worried about Uhura... the trailer made it look like she was Kirk's love interest.

I thought Kirk always had a thing for Uhura? It was the first interracial kiss on US TV was it not?

EDIT: I'm not counting Kirk's many love interests with blue skin and blonde beehives here.

yay, didn't even know there's supposed to be a new star trek movie :ack:

According to wikipedia, that kiss was forced by telekinesis. :crazyeye:

What's this? They made the new Kirk a sci-fi version of James Dean? I can hear the fan-base scream: 'Stop! you're tearing me apart!'

this will appeal purely to trekkies, fulfilling their wildest wet dreams. for everyone else it will be the most disgusting gross thing ever made. i felt embarassed looking at those photos of kirk in his underwear, WHY WHY WHYW HWYUWWJP!KWGHWHWYW!!!!

The problem I have with a young Kirk is that he was young to begin with. If I remember my ST History correctly, he was like 28 or 29 when he obtained the captaincy of the Enterprise. It was acknowledged that he was very young to reach such a position. So to make him even younger almost seems non-canonical to me.

But yeah, I'll see it. I've only been a Trekker since I can remember....

Kirk was 34 when he became Captain of the Enterprise.

Since I don't go to movies, I'll have to wait until this is on TV or in the bargain bin to see it, but in the meantime the speculation over at Trek BBS has been wild (and hilarious).

I think it looks friggin awesome. I'm not a Trekie by any means, but I do love TNG with a passion. It's one of the few shows to have made me cry (The Inner Light)

I knew it was pretty young... So seeing him even younger kinda goes against what I know of Trek.

But I can't wait....

You sound like you've never seen a single episode of Star Trek in your life.

Instead of simply trolling me, why not explain why you think this?

Because I have always been a huge fan of the Star Trek universe from the beginning. Probably one of the few here that can actually state I saw the original series on TV as a kid.

About the only Star Trek series I couldnt get into was the last "Enterprise" tv series, but in regards to original canon, I know it quite well.

My understanding is that the movie is set at Starfleet Academy, so he's not gonna be captain for a few years.

As I'm the same age as MobBoss, I too watched the original Star Trek when it was first shown. In fact it's the first thing I really remember watching in colour and I was really disappointed that Spock was not as green as I expected. Zachary Quinto really does look like he'll make a good Spock. Not really enough to tell about the others, but not sure about Kirk. Not sure I like them making Uhura Kirk's love interest if that's how it really pans out and isn't just to spice up the trailer.

No one has commented about my space bra theory. "Set bosoms to perky?"

The actor is 28, while Kirk received command of the Enterprise when he was 31. It seems acceptable.

Regarding the bra, how expensive would it be to have an anti-gravity bra on the salary of a lieutenant? Even assuming that it's possible to make generators small enough.
