Actually, in Britain, if a Queen is the head of state, I don't believe her spouse gets the title of 'king' regardless of his nationality.

I don't know for certain, but Britain's queens regnant have all either been unmarried (Elizabeth I & Anne, ruled jointly with their husbands (Mary I & Philip II of Spain or Mary II & William III) or only raised their husbands to princely titles (Victoria & Elizabeth II). I doubt it's much if anything to do with Philip previously being a prince of Greece and Denmark.

The Queen and Prince Philip married in 1947, as I recall, four and some years before George VI died.

I think in addition to that, he married her while she was queen. I'm not even close to certain on this, but I think you'd have to marry her before she got the job to get the promo.
He married her before her coronation. EDIT: ninja'ed

Philip II was Spanish and a Habsburg to boot. :)

Prince Philip is, technically, a Prince Consort.

Interestingly, he and Elizabeth met when she was 13 and he 18. She fell in love with him. And they began writing letters to each other. Seems a bit early. But still.

It's a monarchy. They do everything else like it's 1500; courtship is hardly any different.

I think we should go the French route and HANG ALL THE MONARCHS. Especially Kate Middleton.

I disagree with this. I think we should find them jobs at the local supermarkets. Or even MacDonalds. Maybe a bit of painting and decorating.

Is James Bond in Scotland Yard?

edit: fixed. ;)

No. Scotland Yard (tel: Whitehall 1212) used to be the headquarters of the metropolitan (i.e. London) police force.

New Scotland Yard, the present HQ, is due to move again.

James Bond (if he exists at all, and tbh I'm not really sure he does) would be found based in MI6 (or is it MI5?). Properly known as the SIS building.

Not to be confused with Smilie's People, of course. Who are to be found here, at the Circus (for people in the know ;)):

Is that all sorted out now?

Kate Middleton (or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, as she is now known) is not a monarch. She's not even married to one yet and likely won't be for another 10-20 years.

Yeah, she's the wrong shape. Too thin. Bad taste in husbands. All the world, but me, has seen her thrupenny bits.

Give her the chop. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
