Looks familiar? You'd be forgiven for thinking this was a prototype for the USAF B-2 Spirit bomber, and in a way it was...The Horten X/Go-229 was a plane of a very futuristic kind, and had it been produced earlier, would have been a dangerous enemy and a superplane of the era...Another WW2 design that hinted at the furture.

1) Several moderators at the very least dislike me.

2) Which was why I was creating a new one. I even picked the best warship in history, the HMS Furious, to be part of the all-star opening post! For some reason, my new thread was merged with one from more than a year ago.

I'm writing a paper about cold war nuclear arsenals right now, and in my research I came across this forgotten beauty: the FB-111

It looks a lot like a more rugged version of the B-1, which I believe to be the world's sexiest airplane.

The Royal Australian Airforce still fly these babies and they are a fixture at all our airshows doing the old dump and burn routine. It is great to watch. Being a warfare officer in the navy I also get "attacked" by these guys quite often in the maritime strike role. Those ones are painted grey but you can see them coming right at you on the bridge with a big plume of black exhaust behind. Sometimes when the pilot is feeling cheeky they fly right past at eye level and wave. You could almost reach out and touch them. It is awesome!

The Luftwaffe flying wings reminded me of an experimental project I saw in Janes recently.
One of the proposals for the C-5 Galaxy replacement and possible future tanker is the Boeing Blended Wing Body. It could carry 23 pallets of stores and 40 troops plus twin boom refuelling over 7000nm at a constant .85mach.
Considering that the A380 has a 140 tonne capacity and the largest Antonov has a 250 tonne payload this could really revolutionize military transport.

One of my fav WW II planes - the Fw Ta152 - put into service without proper testing, poor quality parts and flown by inexperienced pilots in situations it wasn't built for (it was designed as a high altitude fighter with a pressurized cockpit, but it was mostly used to protect ME 262's in their vulnerable start and landing phase). Yet it was a plane with great potential and looked far more elegant than the FW 190 it was based on.
