@Jaws, that looks like an old Swedish MBT, not an ambush machine? I was told the the gun moves up/down*, and the vehicle has a zero turning circle. Having no turret, or being one big turret, meant it could fire a larger gun with greater accuracy. Downside was that all that turning put too much strain on the engines causing heavy maintenance problems.

* Actually, the whole body of the vehicle tilted with the front rising up to achieve that

I see domeone is a fan of Robotech. I love Robotech and Mobile Suit Gundam but this is my favorite war machine. I know it's out of date but I like it just the same. :)

yeah its called Stridsvagn 103, the S-Tank

it has hydraulic suspension, (like those jumping lowriders LA gangstas like to cruise in) allowing the gun to be elevated/lowered and by turning the whole thing sideway you aim the gun

its obsolete now and taken out of service, and yes they were prone to break down due to the complicated hydraulic, but when they worked they were hard to hit ;)

the idea was that the low sillouette would make it suitable for ambush, so if the soviet decide to invade, these machines would 1.ambush them 2.hit them, 3.retreat, 4.repeat 1,2 and 3

this design also means it cant fire while moving, not good for attacking

also i dont think they have been the swedish army MBT , but they wwere considered tanks, swedish army used centurions at the time

@Gelion:what are those red things on the sides of the turret on that t-80 you posted? they look like somekind of rockets?

She isn't much to look at, but this is the finest ship on the oceans: USNS Comfort.
