Please, not choice 3 or 4. We have plenty of 19 century alt-his NESes and Fresh Starts has been seen over and over again. If one of them, take the Fresh Start at least. But both have been seen so many times that it's a waste not to play your awesome ideas of #1 and #2. I have no problems with TWTUD continued forever though.

#1
This would simply be awesome. This would be a 'normal' NES with a high emphasis on possibilities with magic, right? Sounds awesome. Especially with the WoW map. I say yay.

#2
So in this NES each of us would develop from a single person attempting to survive to, say, a leader of a gang. Then he would gather more people below him, organizing a minor society, then to control more and more people, on and on before you control a country? CHRIST, GET THAT NES UP AND RUNNING!

@lord Joakim,

1. Yeah, it would be a normal NES as you say with a significant amount of modifications. Mostly, each race would have unique abilities (and this includes ALL races, not just orcs and humans). Despite that, the magic part is my pride of this concept, and adding playable "heroes" is another fun aspect. I have thought about this as another "mini" NES like Warlords of North America or the Men Who Would Be King, but i could not bear to see this one die like those.

2. not even leader of a gang. You could be anyone you'd like. And your enemy at the start would be mostly just the elements, other refugees, and starvation. Yes, you've got the basic idea of it in your post. It's only recently that i've imagine a ruleset to accomadate the difficulties of it.

You know, I'm really curious as to how will you handle pre-Third War Kalimdor and other such distant locations. Or will the map expand there as soon as they became relevant to the main storyline (i.e., the Orcs had just conquered the Human kingdoms and have now set out west at the behest of their demonic puppet-masters, and at this point the game expands into Kalimdor)?

Also, "ALL the races"? I suppose that the Forest Trolls are an obvious example, as are the Centaur tribes, but does this extend to such species as the Gnolls (well, if they could unite into a sufficiently large army)? I seem to recall that the map in question was very politically-detailed. Oh, and Goblin cartels are a must-have, ofcourse.

It depends on how many people play these games.

I wouldn't play a WoW or Warhammer NES because I know nothing of the universes. But perhaps a lot of NESers are familiar with these games.

In short, Lucky, wait for everybody to express interest before determining who would be interested and who wouldn't.

No offense but WoW and Warhammer just don't seem like really fun or long lasting NES ideas for the general NESing population.

I haven't any actual knowledge of the NES, but wasn't there a Warhammer NES recently which lasted pretty long? And you must on the other hand agree that some of the other ideas are somehow emptied...

No... but there still is a Warhammer 40k NES.

LightFang, it's not like any relevant Warcraft information is at all difficult to find nowadays. ;)

I would definantly play either three or four. I might play two depending on the rules look.

The others I will not play. I am not too into the futuristic NESes or fantasy versions. Mostly, because to the me the technologies, races, and worlds are very unfamiliar to me.

Lord Joakim, while 19th century NESes may be made a lot it is because many people enjoy playing them. If people like them as they still have a plurality in this poll then they should continue to be made.

I am stating my own view, just as you. I don't want to participate in seven NESes at the same time if they all take action under the German Unification or the glory of Great Britain or whatever happened at that time. But if there was one 19th century NES, a fresh start NES, a space colonization NES, a fantasy NES, a Roman Era NES, an Age of Exploration NES and an experimental NES (DwarfNES fx) was present, I would participate in as many as possible, because every NES wouldn't look the same to me.

We have a couple random cradle NES, a couple fresh start NES, a couple 19th century NES, a 20th century NES, and a few other topics. We do have variety. A while ago I remember people complaining there were too many random cradle NESes. Occasionally, there are more types of NESes then others and if people prefer 19th century NESes there will be more of them. That was my point and I understood your point. I should have clarified it better. Anyway, lets end this argument as it is stupid :).

I would not mind a fresh start NES either if it lasts a long time. It would be cool to try and get one up to the modern era. That takes a lot of time though and the odds if it getting that far are slim. That is why I voted for your 19th century NES.

OOC: Btw, has there at any point been a fresh start NES which managed to make it to the modern era or beyond?

I believe ROTR2 did, but I'm not sure.

now that i think about it i would like to see a new alt hist especially if the rules are similar to TWTUD. I call the Republic of California haha. We suceeded too

Well, it actually only went to about 1050 AD. However, by that time, there were colonies on Mars.

@das, i plan to include pre-war Kalimdor as well. The night elves would admittedly have their fair share of problems at the start, plus the different centuar tribes, quillboars, tauren. Also, let's not forget the friendly Silithids. Gnolls would be included, but murlocs would not (seriously, all they can say is "mcgurgle" so there's very little point to them). Northrend would also be included, as this NES would not happen until after Wrath of the Lich King was released.

Regarding a WoW, I would make it, very "non-WoW player friendly". Emphasis would be placed on the situation as it stood at the NES, and people would not need to follow the background. (For example, let's imagine the dwarves allied with the orcs to bring down the humans; or perhaps the nightelves amass a massive army to conquer the divided Eastern Kingdoms)

Return to Our Roots 2 did go from the Stone Age all the way to post-Modern era to answer that question. It is the only NES to date to do so.

As for the alternative history, which is obviously garnering the most support, the rules would be TWTUD with some modifications to reflect the fact that in 1830, the industrial revolution was just beginning. Also, I'll be taking several concepts from the game Victoria, particularly regarding civilized and uncivilized nations. The rules will be adapted to included modifications i've made in TWTUD since its inception, particularly regarding research. Also, I've looked at some of luckymoose's tech ideas, and several of them will also be included. One particular aspect of this ruleset, is that in theory, a nation could deploy nuclear weapons as early as 1900 if all the techs were accumulated. Also, an alternative approach to flight will be presented, allowing for some fun.
