IIRC morff, weren't you the player who consistently achieved insanely large German empires of your own making?

What victory are you going for in that China game?
Because the main China strategy really hinges on getting Japanese Gold+Silver while taking India and Persia and accumulating GAs bolstered by the MoM.

AAAAAAAND Indian gems;)

Forgot about those too, probably because my last China game saw me (lucky!) generating Gems on a regular Mine in my Core.
You could stand to benefit from the Ivory too, but if you play efficiently, you can decisively defeat the Mongols on spawn with Rifles/Cuirs.

I usually settle the Indian gems city as my 4th city. It also provides ivory and later cotton.

Yep that's me :) I even saw this 1 bln people challenge, i almost got 2 with my super cities and corporations, however it was not really possible. The long terms stability / dependency on resources or even the global warming, i got only about 1.75 bln.

For the China i'm playing the UHV. I saw the religious victory, which seems interesting too.

My China strategy is kind of simple (i'm playing only for fun on viceroy), you can get 8 cities, if you get one Korean and one Khmer city. Then be give it to them for (i guess 10 turns), destroy them after that, continue building the temples. I had some troubles with Koreans, but after them nothing can really stop you after that :) However i really avoided to get any city that would flip to the Mongols, it's really annoying if your nice buffer of army starting to pick their side and the Keshiks are coming in large numbers already.

For the last golden ages, 1. you get from 2 UHV completed, 2. from the Olympic park, 3. you can use 2 GP (which is really easy before 1800), 4. if you manage to get islam you can build the Taj Mahal or just get 3 another great persons (it's not really hard to get 2 + 3 different GPs before 1800).

I am confused on your strategy for the golden ages. I find I can get all of the golden ages well before I can even build the Olympic Park, so I am wondering what strategy you're employing to find that better than having GP farms.

It appears that the Hapsburg dynasty has experienced a issue. The Karlings appear to have prevented them from taking power. And decided that taking greece while they were at it was a good idea...Well, pretty clear who i need to be on the good side of now...

also, it appears the karlings have pre-empted the Putin Dynasty and have occupied the Crimea.

I so wish gravelkind succession was a thing here...

Go home Tamil, your dru...wait...how did you get over here in the first place. thats got to be one hell of a story.
I thought when i had made contact with you, i had done so because a scout had wandered over our way. No, you managed go arround africa somehow, despite it not being possible, and have explored your way to be on the coast of Albion. (oh, i actually went and checked their tech. no astromony, and even then, they have explored arround the capes. Which i only just managed to get a settler down to south africa. Almost had to abandon the longbowman. Turns out that when eithopia is still around, it gets even harder to get down there.

Sorry Portugal. India stole your thunder.

There's probably a city in Egypt acting as a canal. I've seen that happen before if that's the case.

That looks like the Tamil UU. It's a caravel replacement, can it go through cape tiles? I don't think it can go through ocean tiles, but it might be able to go through capes. I see the Cholas all the time in Europe wandering around with it's UU, with no Egyptian canal present.

Unlike in real life, I'm not sure what's the benefit for Tamils and Malays to have abilities to cross the cape into the South-Southwestern coast of Africa in DoC.

P.S: I'm not sure if Indonesia's UU, Orang Laut, is still able to cross the cape. iirc at some point it can, but has it's revised as well when the new UP added (?) idr, idk.

Both replace units that are able to cross capes (and ocean), but become available with earlier technologies. The only ability they have is that they can cross the tiles when the respective technologies become available. So Dharanis and Orang Laut can pass capes after Compass (just like everyone else) and both can enter ocean tiles after Optics, because that's when you normally gain this ability with Caravels (Indonesia then can cross the ocean with Orang Laut and Caravels).

I've lurked on Civfanatics for a while, but today something happened that was so strange that I thought I might as well share it. I was playing the 3000BC scenario as Ethiopia, expecting a normal game - the first thing I thought was odd was that I failed a UHV before I spawned, but it turned out that was only the start of my troubles...

...28 pop in 300BC??? They've founded Islam already??? After hearing that they had built the Taj Mahal I sent some troops north...

Within a matter of turns they had entered the Industrial Era!

Some turns later I was frozen with horror...

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Do I look like I want Gunships killing my bowmen???

Those poor Byzantines... :(

WHAT??? The supercity had flipped to the Byzantines, who had to look after a modern age city with only classical technology... but they got some free Mech Infantry

Within 2 turns Byzantium had collapsed (after converting to Taoism of course). I was annoyed that I couldn't take Egypt now because of the hordes of barbarian Mechs and Gunships. Then something shocking happened...

Thank god, just in time before they got interstellar travel!

By 610AD Rome was a load of cosy remnant realms, and the Vikings had no idea what had been happening... All hell will break loose when the Arabs inherit Jet fighters and MBTs... :D
