 What's the story behind that?

Well that's the label I saw in my jeans (Ted Baker) that got me wondering. I'm guessing it's just because of the 'Bakerness' but other than that it is a pretty crap story, especially if it comes back to 'Ted Baker, selling 13 pairs of jeans to avoid fraud' ;)

Why is it that during winter solstice, it gets completely dark 30 minutes after sunset, while during summer solstice, it takes an hour and thirty minutes to get completely dark after sunset?

Probably because the angle difference means the sunlight is traveling through a smaller portion of the atmosphere.

Also, I think the atmosphere bends the sunlight... So when the Earth is tilted in the right way, there is more atmosphere for the light to travel through and be bent by.

So I have repeatedly dodged going to events throughout the year connected with my Law Inn but have unfortunately been roped in to going to one and even worse it is fancy dress :(

Therefore, what did one wear in 1940's Blitz Britain? Then, if anyone has any ideas, where can i get ahold of this in London on the cheap?

The only idea I have so far is a fedora!

The people who actually make the clothes do make something along the lines of the bakers dozen. Rather than actually count a couple of hundred x they just work out how much material will result in the contracted items, add spoilage and a bit for luck. Then they flog the extras, the thirteenth as it were, in the market.

All about the hats.

EDIT - Though I guess barristers may be desensitised to silly historic headgear.

I mean a 40's suit and a bowler/ trilby would be a fancy dress outfit for most people, but in the Inns it could represent dressing down for some of the more senior members.

Student run party, means that mostly the only people there will be Students so luckily don't have to worry about that. The other option is black tie which I would prefer to avoid.

What is a 40's suit though? Could my 00's suit double as a 40's suit if i just add a skinny tie?

Could be, or if you have the shoulders for it you could go zoot

My grandad used to tell me Irish jokes... But we're Irish-Scots, and his grandad was a navvy from Donegal. Is that "racism", for want of a better word, or just a little archaic?

Okay, so like, Fox News is the right-wing media outlet, yes?

...Could somehow explain to me how the hell this chart happened? It was very surreal.

With no idea of context, it looks likean attempt to portray the media as "left-wing librulz."

About the baker's dozen, I was always under the impression that the 13th loaf was to guard against the possibility of spoilage, a lot like making extra bricks when embarking on a construction project.

Be sure to carry a gas mask - it was a requirement afaik and you could be punished for not having one.

And just google second hand or thrift stores in your neighbourhood for locations to shop or try camden.

The problem with Camden is that, in the main, it isn't cheap. It jumped on the 'scene' fairly early and thus started extortionate prices for no reason.

edit- but I'll go and take a look in oxfam i think, see if anything stands out!

Oh, Oxfam! I remember me Dad getting Harry Potter books for £2-3 each.
