The Soda Pop Thread

Sars

(Been going without caffine and softdrinks for a while now, finding that going without caffine helps me sleep better.)

Not much of a fan of phosphates myself, but Dr. Brown's Cream Soda is pretty good. Apparently it's made by PepsiCo.

I didn't know Vernor's was still mostly a regional product. I used to have to drink it when I was sick as a kid because it was supposed to be easier to keep down on an upset stomach than water, milk, or juice. The taste was okay but as carbonation is the main thing I dislike about phosphates and it was heavily carbonated, I never drank it when I was healthy.

And I usually use the term 'soda', despite coming from an area of the map that's a fairly heavy 'pop' zone.

I would go with IBC root beer, although apparently Dr. Pepper/Snapple (of Cadbury Schweppes) owns them now. Dunno if that's indie enough for you.

While not a favorite per se, I actually find Moxie quite to my liking. I brought back a case of it from Massachusetts when I returned after spending the holidays there. I'm pacing myself so it'll last me the whole year.

As another Michigan native I must include Vernors and Faygo Rock n' Rye among my favorites. If only any stores around here sold the latter!

Recently I've seen Boylan's sodas for sale around here, and I like them quite a bit. I had never had Birch Beer before, so I hope stores continue to carry it.

Heck yeah Rock n' Rye!! :high5: I still prefer Cream Soda, but the taste of Rock n' Rye takes me back to every fourth-grade birthday party in history.

Pepsi is superior to all.

It's not nice to troll like that.

While I don't like cola all that much, coca-cola blows Pepsi away by a mile. Coca cola taste has character, while pepsi just tastes like sugar water.

Pepsi, compared to coke, has a lot more flavor IMO.

Coke is just watered down Pepsi.

Moderator Action: Quit spamming the thread.

Coke and Pepsi both go all right with food imho, but aren't worth it on their own. Coke maybe a bit doable but still not that great.

what do indie sodas do to make their drinking experience specifically unique? like with energy drinks, it's most concoction of drugs, and with alcohols, it's a game to see how enjoyable it can be despite the fact that technically speaking the alcohol itself is a nasty ingredient for taste. What is the goal of an indie soda?

I would assume that a lot of people like non-mainstream drinks simply because the taste is different, and being different is enough to be exciting and awesome.

Australian sodas are inherently better.
No, no, no. You did it wrong. We don't call them 'sodas'. We have 'soda water', but it is a different thing to what is being referred to as 'soda' in this thread and in your post. We call such drinks 'soft drink'. 'But that makes no sense!" I hear you say. Well, no it doesn't, but seriously, 'soda pop'? What the hell does that mean?

Soft drink is a common enough name here too; edit - you'll particularly see it on printed stuff/menus. Probably the secondary name in many of the "soda" areas. (pop is still a pretty bad name and calling everything a coke is of course at the level of "the South will rise again!")

Calling it pop is common in Michigan.
