Anyone out there think about Tom Clancy being a major source of inspiration for the Vulcans, the group around Condeleezza Rice?
First out, Tom Clancy's game Ghost Recon came out in 2001, and was about a future war between Russia and South Ossetian separatists against Georgia, and the very war took place in august 2008.
As Rudyard Kipling was the writer for the British Empire, Tom Clancy is the writer for the American Empire. What is clear, is that several of his narratives can be directly connected to planned and spinned world events. Like the big power plays Clancy describes, and even an airliner being crashed into the Capitol to trigger a war.
I think Rice realized McCain would not be elected, or the Vulcans would not continue in their present offices, if they did not cause an event just before the final US Presidential Race that would allow McCain to shine in all his jingoism and make outlandish Obama look like an unpatriotic and weak-willed civilian leader with no military experience. I think Rice talked the impressionate Shakashvili and his juvenile defense minister born as late as 1978, with no military background whatsoever. Then she made a backroom deal with Putin, or someone else in the Russian Administration we do not know about, to let the Russians get Abkhasia and South Ossetia in return for letting McCain win the election.
For the Vulcans, the hardliners in the DC administration, the loss of the US presidency to Obama, is a much bigger loss than the position in Georgia, as oil and gas prices are regulated by markets anyways. Also, deepening the divide between Russia and Europe also fits the Vulcan agenda. Certainly the entire Georgian Olympic War, as I call it (after both the country and possibly half-witted instigator George W, triggered in connection with the Beijing Olympics as a parallel to the Spanish Civil War situation during the Berlin Olympics in 1936), seems to be masterminded in advance, as a fan-boy like Shakashili probably was encouraged to repossess South Ossetia, and did not boil this up on his own.
