The truth!

The only reason why it "worked" was because #fiftychat decided to play along. I'm surprised so many people genuinely believed it - it was pretty awfully stilted. Poor concept, nice execution, thanks to us.

Of course fiftychat decided to play along! Wasn't it fun staying online all night and day saying 'x is stupid, how can he believe this' 'zomg he's finally realised the truth' and so on? Or Virote faking his resignation from OT? Perf offering to buy CFC, and so on? It was fun to me at least.

never said it wasn't :p

If you can actually get people to fall for an April Fools prank, you've done a good job. :goodjob:

Some mods need acting lessons though...too enthusiastic, not realistic enough. :p

Oh I am sure they are singing the "TROLOLOLOLOLO" song while the rest of us a handful of gullible teens are raging .

There, fixed that for ya. ;)

Kudos to the mod staff, that was hysterical. Loved it. The joke itself was almost as funny as the panic it created amongst a few poor unsuspecting souls :goodjob:

Yeah, possibly because I found it through a march 31st "deleted" link in sitefeedback--not the first time I've seen deleted posts moved to wrong parts instead of deleted--I definitely fell for it. Nobody had been talking about it and I figured the breach would be closed if it got public and I wanted to keep reading. I didn't read critically enough the whole "ainwood-turner infraction", kind of glanced over it and figured I didn't get their in-joke.

Fortunately Whomp told me to edit my post and then of course when I leaked it to fiftychat they spotted it faster than anything. Cheezy didn't hardly clicked the link and was like "it's april fools. They wanted it found by fiftychat" and there was likeminded concurrence. Fiftychat, via Bill, leaked it to NESchat, and they spotted it right away too. It only takes 1 person in a group of 10 to let the whole group know... Bill and Cheezy from my view did the most work to pretend to believe it to spread it around. As Cheezy put it, it was up to fiftychat to make it believable for the rest of the forum.

At one point I was accused of being a mod-plant and while initially that was not the case, by the time of the accusation I ignored it :mischief:

:hatsoff: to everyone involved.

Sorry to aimee for stressing out, not sorry to the rest of ya :mwaha:

Still though, what were people doing believing anything on the internet on April Fools' Day? I thought everyone knew that...
I can't remember the full post, but in one of the hidden topics, Eran of Arcadia had made a post that they should refrain from announcing the site change in fear that the users might think it was an April Fools joke.

@Moderators: Could one of you bring up a quote of the aforementioned post?

To be fair, only a very small group of people "fell" for it, and I half expect they just liked the excuse to spam and full pace for a few hours...

That was actually the funniest part!

A few little nibbles, first school of fish right around 2am EDT, then the regulars start strolling in around 8am EDT, then the feeding frenzy started. (Yes, we were watching the entire time!)

Heh, I was one of the 2am people. I was playing Shogun 2, and decided to taken an internet break, and lo and behold, I have a PM from Bill telling to me to visit this "secret" forum.

I spent the next 2 hours or so lol'ing my ass off. The joke itself wasn't too funny, but the way everyone handled it was

Kudos to everyone who participated! :goodjob:

Well, you definitely pulled some heart strings with your "rite of passage" post. Growing up here through high school, college and what has yet become was really great stuff. Obviously, some of it too personal for all eyes but thanks for sharing it with some of the mods who read it.

I missed out on all the fun it seems. I did not see any of the action so this is all going way over my head.
As I suspected it would be archived and you can find it here thanks to Bill3000.

Bill has archived some interesting stuff over the years!

The moderators Ill say have an evil sense of humor

Your right, thanks for pointing that out, and a huge thanks to Bill3000 for archiving this.

Yeah, announcing it on April 1 is a terrible idea; I would wait under any circumstances.

I was on Fiftychat when the site went down. Lots of lulz.

This all reminds me of something! Back in the days of yore, when I was a 14-year-old #civfanatics miscreant, I got you to search your own posts and post the link. Lo and behold, I could see your posts in the staff forum, or at least the first ~100 chars or so. I'd been trying to figure out ever since I found out about it what went on in the staff forum, and that made my day!

I think they fixed that issue long ago, but I guess accidentally letting us proles into the staff forum actually has sort of happened before. :p

Can't say it enough times. Laughed-my arse-off!!! One more time! One more time!

The post by Eran of Arcadia that I referred to:

Wait, so this whole things was a joke?:eek::lol:

Anyways, this was more successful than Mrs. of Arcadia's attempts to imply she was pregnant on Facebook; all she got was sympathy for her recent illness that caused her to throw up every morning . . .

This one was a lot of fun, but I think most people were expecting something of this magnitude after the whole CivJunction thing (which was amazing beyond words, BTW), that's how I picked it out almost immediately. We were, admittedly, at first very confused (how am I seeing this?), but it quickly became obvious.

Bill has archived some interesting stuff over the years!

You should see the insane stuff we've saved on the fiftychat forum.
