Can anyone recommend a general book on Hindu mythology?
I realized that besides the polytheism and the cows, I know functionally nothing about Hinduism.
From what I've read the polytheism is actually a bit complicated: Hinduism is monotheistic, but sees God (Brahman) as incomprehensible to humans except in his various aspects, which are the 'gods' as received in mythology. Have you heard the parable of the blind men and the elephant?
I'm a Hindu and I know about the same as you. I should probably read a book on it too...Can anyone recommend a general book on Hindu mythology?
