Can anyone please enumerate to me what Steve Bannon has done to be so deeply reviled by the left (other than being associated with Trump)? I keep hearing the term 'white nationalist' bandied about, but can't find him saying racist or authoritarian things even through Google searches.

Some quotes of Bannon in France at the annual congress of the Front National this spring showing how he handles for example racism

"Let them call you racist," the man widely credited with crafting President Trump's nationalist message during the 2016 campaign told a far-right crowd in France last week.

"Let them call you xenophobes," Steve Bannon continued. "Let them call you nativist. Wear it as a badge of honor. Because every day, we get stronger and they get weaker."

No, that's pretty standard Trumpian stuff. You want to call that racist, fine. But leftists always claimed he was the hardcore 'intellectual wing' of the Trump movement; the principled white supremacist. What has he done to deserve that label?

What he's saying is that you should take pride in being given an unfair label, because people who have experienced the same will understand and sympathize with you. It's ridiculously obvious that he's not admitting to being a racist.

The difference is, Bannon spouts this crap because he believes in it. Trump spouts it because it makes a certain part of his voter base happy and makes liberals heads explode.

And, given his past behaviour, he also does believe in the things he says.

By this point I consider that any new politcal questions Mouthwash raises here are him trying to get the thread to go up in a glorious flame war.

Let's see what happens with your logic when I replace only the word "racist" with "anti-semitist" from Bannon's and your statement:

"Let them call you anti-semitic," the man told a far-right crowd

"Let them call you xenophobes," the man continued. "Let them call you nativist. Wear it as a badge of honor. Because every day, we get stronger and they get weaker."

Is your reaction still:

Since his response was obviously feigned in the first place it is unlikely to be changed. You are trying to argue against dishonesty. That never works.

It is, by the way, Bannon's stock in trade to demand argument against his dishonesty. That's the lightning in a bottle that he passed to Trump.

He's pretty much openly a Nazi. I can see how that wouldn't bother you.

As a serious effort to answer the question, I consider his positions on immigration to be disgustingly racist and it was his associate Stephen Miller who was chiefly responsible for the policy of family separation, which I consider to be the worst single thing that the Trump Administration has done.

Bannon is a smart guy.
But also already burned by being too much connected with Trump's America First.
The local native tribes in Europe do not like that

I've been trying to use Google Translate to translate into Latin the oxymoron: "The Truth lies in Lies."
Google Translate is having none of this. :splat: The best I can come up with is: "Abscondita subiacet veritas" i.e. "Secrets underlie Truth."

Comments? Suggestions? Expertise?

Paging Dr. @Owen Glyndwr.

I suggest ‘in mendaciis veritas’.
The Latins were fond of omitting copulatives and you'd be paraphrasing the well-known ‘in vino veritas’.

So, basically, no reason other than being associated with Trump. You all could have just said as much instead of posting all that apoplectic nonsense.

I'm asking because progressives held him up as somehow worse than Trump, and as proof of the true 'white nationalist' motivations of the campaign. The family separation was awful, but Bannon did not carry it out (no, someone being 'associated' with him is not sufficient evidence) and is at least a few steps above death camps.

Besides, Bannon has been the Grendel of the left since 2016. So that really doesn't explain anything.

He's pretty much openly a Nazi. I can see how that wouldn't bother you.

So please, please quote a statement he's made in support of fascism or Nazism. If it's this obvious, it should be easy for you to provide it.

Absolutely. For the same reason that critics of George Soros (or of elites and globalists in general) get reflexively called antisemitic. I'd wear the label proudly, because it would show every sane person in the world what the left really is.

It's not even theoretical. Cutlass just accused me, the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, of having Nazi sympathies. I could quote that any time he denies giving unfair labels to political opponents.
