The only evidence for a possible link to carcinogenicity are animal and cell culture studies. One is reminded of that study on aspartame which used the equivalent dose of over 300 cans of diet soda a day for a human.

I always hear this cited fact that millions of people are in jail because of smoking marijuana but have never seen the source of this.

On a more general note, here is this.

More than half (55%) of federal prisoners are serving time for a drug offense, and 13% for a
violent offense.
· Nearly three-fourths (72.1%) of the population are non-violent offenders with no history of
violence.
· One-third (34.4%) are first-time, non-violent offenders.
· More than half (55.7%) of persons sentenced for a drug offense in 2002 fell into the lowest
criminal history category (Category 1) of the sentencing guidelines, and in 87% of cases no
weapon was involved.

Does it require debate? Everybody acts in a self-interested way.

Malevolence doesn't matter either. As far as it matters, we should be asking if what Mosanto does is legal. If it is or isn't, why or why not. What we shouldn't be doing is calling companies evil because they offend out sensibilities.

Why should we care if what Mosanto does is legal? We're all self-interested, you said so yourself, so it follows that we should only care if what they do benefits or harms us personally. If it does or it doesn't, why or why not. What we shouldn't be doing is calling companies criminal because they offends our sensibilities.

Isn't it strange? While the number of offences committed has gone dramatically down in the last few decades, the prison population is booming. (As far as I can determine.)
