Grilled cheese sandwiches deserve tomato slices between cheese slices.

The tomato is better

Grilled cheese sandwiches deserve thinly sliced ham between cheese slices.
If you are going to go that route, then do it open faced: bread, cheese, tomato slices and bacon. Broil to cook the bacon.

That's outside the realm of a true grilled cheese sandwich. I find that throwing the ham into the pan while I get the bread buttered and the cheese laid on is sufficient grilling for the ham, and then it grills like a basic grilled cheese sandwich. As soon as you say "broiler" you are into open faced melt territory. Not that there is anything wrong with that territory either, but it is a vast realm where tomato and bacon is just one tiny sliver of the possibilities.

Armchair politicians chattering on OT about US elections sounds exactly like the discussions on OT 15 years ago.
Brexit paranoia sounds identical to the media fear of late 1999, when the world was going to allegedly end on Jan 1 2000.

What I learned today?
People don't learn their lessons. And keep leaping through the same old hoops. :)

Those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat it, but those that do learn history? They're doomed to watch.

TIL Curt Sibling still exists. Wow. This man was a legend back in my no account lingering days. Now for JollyRoger and FredLC to make an appearance.

Good thing you're here to tell us how you're better than the rest.

Both of them were around a few months ago (or even more recently, if they posted in a thread I haven't read).

Yesterday I learned I actually love grilled cheese sandwiches. I haven't had one in at least a decade, so I didn't know.
What a coincidence, I've been on a grilled cheese kick myself for a while now. I had some leftover American cheese from some recipe and decided to use it to make grilled cheese and in the process rediscovered what an amazing melting cheese it is.

TIL - so I already knew that the central valley of California has periodic, massive floods but I recently learned that Irvine (where I live) is in the southernmost extent of that flood zone. I have always kind of looked down on people who choose to live in flood zones but now I'm one of them. In my defense, these floods are more like earthquakes in that while they're periodic, the period is very long between catastrophic events and is mostly unpredictable. So it's not like the people in Southern Illinois or Houston that live in well known yearly flood zones but still.

The third time it repeats it's a farce.
...
The tenth time it's like those people who have nothing better to do and are still watching The Walking Dead.

A hopeless loser, one of those badly dressed people who sit next to you on public transport, told me that in this week's episode Lydia got a kicking, and then Negan interceded which had tragic consequences for one of the bullies. Darryl mumbled something about something, and then Carol said she wished they had gone to New Mexico. :shifty:
