Clearly, Texas is ahead of the curve on Republican efforts to limit government intrusion with unnecessary regulation.

TIL in Russia even roads get stolen - and resold. But that's not the news. The head of prison supposedly responsible for this crime is actually being prosecuted. With actual evidence of the crime. Although the suspect is now in custody, for fear of making evidence disappear (!). Estimated loss to the Russian treasury: a full 70,000 euro (!).
Apparently the prison service 'has a bad name'. Last year the then head of the service was arrested on suspicion of fraud with electronic ankle bracelets, by attempting to have the patent registered - even though he did not own it.
Reports of prison personnel ganging up with inmates to blackmail other prisoners for 'protection' and the use of sweatshops (earning the treasury an estimated 1 billion dollar in yearly returns) don't help their good name either.

I could have looked it up easy enough. Just never bothered. I just knew that the car was somewhat heavier than other cars of a similar size. That's the price of all wheel drive. Well, that and not so great gas mileage.
