If so, what do you call one individual dumpling?

That's the confusing part, we call one Pierogi a Pieróg. But if you say "Pieróg" people will think you mean the baked stuff aka Kulebiak.

I think there isn't any confusion, because the context should always make it clear what you're talking about. I mean, you would only reference 1 pierogi if you had a bunch on your plate and you were pointing one out, right? So everyone should know what you mean when you use the word in that context.

Mind you a dumpling like the one you linked might not be grouped under "pierogi". I'm not sure, but the asian variety are called something else, I think.

The one you linked also looks closer to Uszka, which are basically small pierogies we put in soup. I think they might be technically pierogi, but nobody would call them that.

Hey, maybe pierogi can bridge the gap between our two countries and improve relations a bit. :p

Would be cool, because personally I see no reason at all for the gap to exist, in the modern reality. Even the history stuff can be discussed in a friendly manner, I guess, over some delicious and hearty meals we have so many in common.

Hey, doesn't "uszka" mean something like "little ear"? Because it sounds like that to me. And pelmeni come from Finno-Ugric source with "pel'" meaning "ear" and "nyan'" meaning "bread".

So "pelmeni" altogether mean "bread ears".

Also, their shape doesn't matter too much, though big caucasian or central asian dumplings have their names coming from the respective languages. Like "khinkali" or "manti"

Then if the dough is stiff and thin, and the stuffing is mutton (tail fat is the thing to add to the stuffing to make it the "true" thing), and if the 'half-moon' shape is then cooked by letting it swim in a bath of boiling oil, then you get a cheburek.
Empanadas (please ignore the jealous Brazilian) can be deep-fried in cow fat or baked, as you prefer, in a regular gas oven or a real charcoal-fired mud oven.

Hahaha yeah I met a distant relation once in StL as a child who said this and I thought she was super weird. I grew up in NC and didn't move to StL until an adult so I had never heard it before.

Well, that would change the past meaning of some posts.

TIL: The Catholic vote in the US has predicted the winner of every US presidential election since 1972. Basically, whoever wins the Catholics, wins the White House.

So it seems every candidate should really be pushing hard to court the Catholics.

Ignoring the obvious small sample, are you sure you're not confusing correlation with causation?

What small sample size? It's 10 elections out of the 56 total in US history. That is not a small sample size. If you are referring to Catholics, this isn't polling data I'm talking about, but actual vote counts. Every candidate that has won the Catholic vote since 1972 has become president.

EDIT: Plus, it was just an interesting little statistic I found.

Even so, that just indicates a very high level of correlation and doesn't necessarily indicate that the two are definitely linked.

Here are some more things that correlate:

Oh yes, it's definitely interesting, but perhaps unwise to base electoral campaigning upon without further data.

Sure, but the fact that it has happened 10 elections in a row over a period of 40 years at least points to the possibility of a link between the two.

Too many video games.

Clearly, it's a plot to drive Norway into the rapacious arms of unelected Eurocrats and all plucky resistance against the villains at Brussels will be over!
