TIL: Today I Learned

Nope, that's the problem. We use all the time standards across different situations and applications. In a given satellite there might be a dozen different systems that require time keeping and they may use different programming languages and come from different manufacturers. It gets very complicated quickly.

Truth be told it's not a huge deal but it is annoying.
At least to an outsider, it sounds stupid.

comedian Gabriel Iglesias recently lost 100 pounds.

So he went from 32 stone to a 'mere' 25 stone? That's still way too heavy.

Still, very commendable. It likely is VERY difficult to start losing weight when one has become obese.

Oh, yes. I'm not knocking his achievement, but he's hardly the pinnacle of health yet.

Today I learned about ceruloplasmin, a copper-carrying protein that looks like what happens to a ball of yarn after a cat finds it.

That's actually quite orderly compared to what happened to the yarn when my first cat decided to decorate with it. There wasn't a single chair in the room that didn't have yarn wound around all four legs, and she knocked over the Christmas tree as well.

She was pretty proud of herself that day.

It's a good thing the lights weren't on. That's the sort of thing that can result in a fire.

So apparently Christine Keeler, from the Profumo Affair, died today.

(Sex scandal in 60s Britain that brought down Macmillan's government after it came to light the Minister of War had been sleeping with a call girl who was also sleeping with a Russian spy, and then lied about it on the floor of the Commons.)

That's pretty much what must have gone through my Gussy's mind the year I gave up doing Christmas trees back at the house. He had a thing for eating paper and cardboard and chewing practically everything else that was ever an ornament.

So finally I put what was left of the Christmas stuff away, and drew a picture of a tree and taped it to the filing cabinet.

I loved Gussy very much and still miss him terribly (he died 10 years ago), but he had an obsession with paper that I'm grateful Maddy doesn't have.

Zelda did have a thing about christmas trees and ornaments when she was a kitten. But not so much now.

Zkribbers wuv puddy tats but cannot have one because of floor-length curtains.
So get shorter curtains.

Cats have a need to be able to see outside. So I keep my horizontal blinds open and the vertical ones half-open during the day. Night isn't a problem anymore since I no longer have to share a balcony with neighbors whose cat was left out at all hours and would sneak over to my side because it was quieter.
