TIL: Today I Learned

I guess it should not have surprised me, but you can pay for people to cast spells for you online, including "I will break up any couple guaranteed proven love spell" and "I will speed up your metabolism for weight loss and ...".
Spell-casting adspam infested a site I used to be active on, and the so-called "moderator" preferred to ban the people complaining about it, rather than do something about it.

When you think about it, it is not surprising. I'm sure there is a lot more to learn in this new field of study. Eat more dirt and let those microbes shine!

We are a wonderful complex mechanism :)

Here an older study on that GBA, the Gut-Brain-Axis. Could be a bi-directional:
This interaction between microbiota and GBA appears to be bidirectional, namely through signaling from gut-microbiota to brain and from brain to gut-microbiota by means of neural, endocrine, immune, and humoral links.

It looks also that autism correlates with a higher food allergy rate.
Enough studies on that.

"We are what we eat" goes too far... but there are many relations there. Food does influence the environment for intestinal bacteria

Makes sense, after all autistic people have a split with the external world, so identify the crap there too indirectly :)

That said... eating pills which contain crap... doesn't sound very marketable and is quite emetic.

They have another gut feeling :)

There's connections to many things. Recently we had someone here who talked about a possible connection to Parkinson. And I thought that autism was already remote.

TIL that Sunday, tomorrow, the 1,000th race of the F1 takes place in China.
The first one in 1950 at the Silverstone circuit.
Here one of the greatest of all drivers, the Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio, who won 5 years the championship in the 50ies.

Today I learned that my friend's little brother scammed his friends and family into collecting and donating soda cap pop tabs for a fake charity, supposedly researching treatments for Crohn's disease (a condition he has), and used the tabs to make himself a full suit of chain-mail armor.

Aluminum won't stand up to a broadsword.

I think it's like karaoke compared to being a real singer.

That scam surfaces and makes the rounds every few years.

As for aluminum chainmail... yikes. That would barely make a comedy entry at a science fiction convention. It wouldn't fly at an SCA tournament (some people in that organization have learned enough to make a living as professional armorers).

If you pick him up and shake him hard enough, his helmet will squirt off. :D

TIL that Minnesota has a tax credit if you had a stillborn child.
Makes you wonder what else is lurking in the tax code.....

I kind of want to try it for my IBS and depression.

I know I already have a track record of doing inadvisable DIY things, but I kind of want to find a thin person with good mental, intestinal, etc. health who might be willing to give me their poop. Then I could put it in a blender with saline and give myself a poop enema, as described here among other places.

I'm pretty sure the expected value of this would be positive, even if I would end up getting any disease they have and didn't tell me about or didn't know themselves. Still prolly won't do it, but more out of the awkwardness than because it would be a bad idea medically.
