"Translators" needed

I think the list is very comprehensive and has some really great units! I couldn't think of anything off the top of my head accept for the Germanic spearman (unless I overlooked) that needs to be added. Good job Steph...

For shorter names, maybe something like Östr. Füsilier would suffice...unless of course you want to avoid using abreviations at all costs. But hey, the German language uses some damn long words (we abuse using conjunctions), which I'm sure the Civ programmers weren't thinking about when they made the game.

Heh that's so long that a space was automatically introduced there The forums do that for strings of characters with more than 50 elements, without any space.

And I think I recall seeing an even longer word in German somewhere... it couldn't fit alone in 1 raw in a book.

So THAT'S why spaces get inserted in long pathnames. I had posted some pathnames in Steph's thread and they had spaces in them and I didn't remember typing the spaces. Man, that's insulting. They should just be left alone.

But Quinzy's got me stumped.

Sanskrit does a similar thing to German, adding qualifiers and conjuctives, until you end up with a very precisely defined but difficult to parse word. Then in many of the early manuscripts there are no spaces between any words, so you've got to meditate on the whole passage to get the sense of it. Most of the long ones I'm aware of seem to be something to do with psychology in Sanskrit, and engineering (very broadly defined) in German.

I need translation or feedback for the list of Ships, Aircraft and missiles (land units are just a copy of the French, I had not enough time to plan this part, so just ignore it).

For the aircrafts, I'd like to use Russian codename instead of NATO codename if possible, but I don't know them...

Steph, i can provide you with the russian ship, aircraft and missile names.

However the Soviet Union did not assign "code names" to their aircraft, so you have to stick with MiG-21. The major surface warship classes however do have names (besides their project number), most (early) subs don't.

and with the pedia entries for the Germans, i can do that, however that'll take time. i also want to playtest your mod, however i have some pressing real life thing to do, so it can take a while. the russians aren't a problem, that you can have tomorrow.

Latin, as I don't know how to have cyrillic in game anyway.

Do only the ships, missile and aircraft for the moment, the land units list is not finished.

I would not go that far. If they were just dialects, they would be mutually intelligable. And, they are ONLY to those with a lot of exposure due to travel or TV. For example, where I live danish is considered nearly incomprehensible even for those who watch Danish TV (for the english language shows).

The Scandinavian languages are similar. They may have interwoven over the millenia. There should probably be a single Scandinavian language and a single scandinavian nation. But, that is not the case.

Me, I'm still occasionally struggling with some nynorsk dialects.
