I'm more saddened by Firaxis' decision to portray Cyrus the Great as an untrustworthy backstabber and Pedro II as Great People hogging jerk. They were both great and respected rulers, yet It's hard to like them in my games.
Eh, maybe it's just me, but I was always quicker to perceive Pedro's joviality and Cyrus' general slyness/cleverness (probably because I'm always friends with him) than their negative traits. Meanwhile, Pericles has ALWAYS been an a-hole towards me (I'm sorry, old man, I like city-states!), and Philip too, if I try and out-religion him. But I do love the care they've put into the leaders' personalities in this game. It actually helped me get back into studying history, because I was reminded that these were real, living people with quirks and interesting lives. Even if some of their in-game personas are historically inaccurate (Hardrada, you were probably the most Catholic Viking out there. What's this about Odin and Valhalla?)
(Post-script: Speaking of personality, I really wish Cleopatra and Gilgamesh were more... animated on the diplomacy screen. What happened there?)

If you're interested in High Medieval Europe, Duchy/Kingdom of Bohemia led by a Přemyslid, Luxembourg or George of Poděbrady might be a nice choice.

Which Swedish king would you like to see? Gustavus Adolphus again, or someone else?
Like I said, I'd be quite happy with the Lion of the North, Gustavus Adolphus, especially since he's largely responsible for making Sweden a super power.

But whyyyy :( Not even Mali would be required in your view?
Sub-Saharan Africa has just never sparked my interest much. Same with India, surprisingly (given that I love their food, their architecture, their art, and their neighbors in at least two directions). I'd be quite content without Mali, though I wouldn't object if they showed up so long as it's not to the exclusion of Ethiopia. *sigh* I'm craving injera again...

Pedro's backstabbed me so often I've taken to calling him Dom Satan. :p He's almost as bad as Mvemba. :p

So you don't really have a reason other than "I just don't like". Sigh. If Mali's illustrious history, weird religious and scholastic combines and interesting rulers can't entice you, then I give up. :P But for myself I will still keep fighting for more African representation. Particularly since Kongo is still pretty much the only threatening AI ever. XD

I said as much. :p

weird religious and scholastic combines
As a fan of European history, that combination doesn't strike me as weird at all--it's really only in the past 150 years or so that religion and science went their separate ways. :p

What an interesting conversation.
This fan of European history wants Mali in the game obviously along with Ethiopia and hopefully Benin or Ashanti can work. I have a list of European ones too such as Italy, Austria, Byzantines and Portugal. :mischief:
I'll be content after this if it makes people happy.

It was weird in Mali in the sense that it became the absolute center of Muslim religious scholasticism, despite having (at times) an uncomfortable mix of Islam and local African religions (Mansa Musa himself didn't obey all the Muslim tenets expected by Ibn Battuta for example).

I am disappointed by the obvious choices of Carthage, Mali and Morocco.
What about some real, and unseen African civs, like Benin, Dahomey, or Bornu?

Benin and Dahomey are known to me, and worthy of inclusion indeed!

There is such rich history in Africa, and I think it a shame that the most frequently suggested civs tend to be European nations (Italy in particular). Surely people can see that one of Civ's strengths is how it adds new civs no one has heard of to the series, and highlights their awesomeness? I bet few here ever heard of Afonso I (Mvemba a Nzinga) before Civ VI, and I would hope people continue to research and look into African history when looking to suggest new civs. Glad to see the Dahomey and Benin, among others, have had some love in this forum though.

I'll admit that I certainly didn't hear about Mvemba until Civ VI when I played a few games as him and decided to look up more info on him. One of the reasons I really enjoy looking through these forums is that I get to learn about civs and leaders that I'd never heard of before. The Benin empire really grew on me once I heard about (Idia sounds pretty cool) and I've recently become a big fan of Ghezo and the Dahomey. As much as I'd love to have Kanem Bornu in the game too, Ghezo looks so cool and the Dahomey amazons are such an obvious UU that I'm really considering switching my vote to them.
