Cooking is a religion! :mad :D

I'm a burgeoning cook and must disagree, cooking is a practical and addictive art. I think it's close but not quite.

Maybe I have to be admitted into its most cloistered mysteries before I realize the truth though. ;)

This is one Ive been mulling over for awhile. Without any context at all, if asked, 'What are you?" whats the first answer that pops into your mind?
That question will be asked of me only in a casual semi-business social setting (party, social dinner, pub, shopping for a house or car etc.) and I will certainly be replying *3. Profession*. In work related encounters I will always be presenting my business card at the proper time and introducing myself as, again, *3. Profession*.

At any other social encounters we certainly won't be asking such an impolite question. So there is no "context-less" scenario for me to mull over.

Yes I know I can't think out of the box... :p

Really? Without explication my first thought would be "Jeff".
Well, since the question was asked of me in this context, online, my first answer was Narz.

Plus I don't really care for my real life first time so I kind of think of myself by that title more so than my given name.

This one seems to have played out, but I think its bumpworthy to note that there wasnt a single vote for 'financial status'. Nobody here is wealthy apparently.

I'm a Canadian Agnostic White Straight Middle Class Male Human Engineer.

I have been asked this question in a context-less way. I travelled down south, driving through the mountains of North Carolina and I was in a gas station paying for gas. This older guy with far too few teeth asked me out of the blue, "Whut arrr youuuu?" in a unique southern drawl that I learned was actually common in that area.

I was initially thinking he maybe wanted to know whether I was an Engineer or not, having just graduated from college with an Engineering degree, but when I realized there was no context that would give him that impression, I was at a loss as to that the question was about. Something along the lines of "Huh? Wha?... Huh???"

Turns out it was my ethnicity he was concerned about. I have French Canadian and Mexican heritage, in addition to many other western European ancestors of various nationalities (lost count at seven countries of origin). The man wasn't a racist, just curious because he couldn't place my ethnicity in any of his mental containers.

I would say profession.

My first reaction would be one of incomprehension. Then I would realise the nature of the question, and say:

"I am me."

Which is reducible to the form:

"I am."

Which reduces further to:

"I."

Or your "lifestyle consultant"? :deal: (Basically you pay me to help you spend your money.)
