For purposes of this discussion, it's CFC. And I do it too. I usually have to remind myself to mention Assclown, by name, in posts. Despite his often being almost entirely immaterial to the part of the thread I was interested enough to write a post about, Assclown is what people generally be talking about.
Okay but Gorbles was specifically talking about the Electoral College. So in that context, the margin of victory, while certainly not a landslide, wasn't narrow either.

Well, that's why I want to draw the distinction instead of making some kind of attack against half (or maybe slightly less than half of the country). Which would be as pointless as yelling at the sky.
Well he does love the spotlight so it's inevitable. And yes this thread ultimately leads there, even though I really tried not to.
It's the nature of FPTP and districts. One can squeak by with many marginal victories and then win the majority of the seats. I can't quickly google the popular vote amongst all the swing states to determine whether it was super-close or not, but there's always a chance that the electoral college was 'barely' a victory. At that point, people are describing different parts of the elephant when they insist the electoral college victory was 'barely' or not.
It's like playoffs. If a series was won 4-2, but each match went into nail-biting OT, then calling it 'barely' a win of the series is both wrong and not-wrong. Compare that to 6 nail-biters and one curbstomp to end the series 4-3. Which one is more 'barely' a victory? Different parts of the same elephant will describe it differently. Or winning 4-2 where you squeaked by in OT all four times, but got curb-stomped for two of the matches.

I haven't read all 37 pages of this thread, but just dropped in to say that these things are popular in Canada among some of the Reformacon/UCP supporters, especially the ones ballyhooing about "Wexit" (a new Western separatist movement that wants the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan to separate from Canada and become a country).
This American "MAGA" (the Canadian equivalent is "Make Alberta Great Again" - to which I always answer that Alberta has always been great, but has had terrible political leaders for most of the 109 years since we joined Confederation) BS has been influencing the crackpot portion of our electorate here. It's sickening. Please do whatever you can to get Trump out of power down there, so we can hopefully have some return to sanity up here.

Just less the two weeks ago, I saw a burly, older man shuffling down the steps from the Alberta Courthouse on the east edge of Downtown Edmonton, and he was wearing a MAGA, and without attraction that would indicate "staring," I had a glance, and it was definitely one of the original versions that said "Make AMERICA Great Again," not make "Make ALBERTA Great Again."

I've been assaulted because of who and what i am, literally kicked in the head, whilst lying on the floor begging for it stop. Go pound dirt, go do what you like, but just go away.
You can cry all you want about how unfair people are to you on this forum but the danger i have to worry about is also in the physical realm of existence, not just limited to bitter, harsh political and social debate.
And they're probably just as scared of you.
No doubt for vastly different reasons though.
I'm not a physical threat to anyone, the same can't be said for those i've met that have taken umbradge with my existence though. I thought you'd be a bit more sympathetic, what with having been assaulted yourself for appearing different than what society expects.
But then again you seem to still struggle with the fact that for many minorities, MAGA, as well as the hat itself, represent a threat and looming danger that this country has yet to even begin to adequately deal with. Some of us can't even go outside without being put in a dangerous position, on top of crime and the other usual issues that affect people.
Have you ever been dragged out of the toilet by a bunch of people and accused of being a pervert? Or harrassed for exercising your basic human right to go to the toilet? What about feeling a palpable level of potential violence each time you have to deal with that reality.
If by "scared" what you actually mean is that they have to confront the fact that people like me exist, then sure, by all means label it that, but i'm not the one trying to persecute them, electing and supporting people who view transpeople with the upmost antipathy and disdain, those who wear and support MAGA Hats do.

I've seen one solitary MAGA hat since 2016. On some old guy at a beer festival in a hyper conservative town (it's been red since I was a kid).
I do wonder if Trump's popularity isnt just overplayed for publicity. Most Republicans in my RL life only support him by proxy (support his nominations or endorsees but not the man himself). I know many in my family just voted for him because of Scalia's empty seat. That's it. A lot of them are kind of embarrassed by him.
I think the MAGA hat is legitimately about a reinvigorated American Industrial sector and that's why they're worn. My neighbor cites the reinvigorated iron and steel industry as reason enough to vote Trump.

That's not Brown People's faults, that's not transpeoples faults, thats not LGB peoples faults, that's not women's faults, that's not immigrants faults, that's nobody's fault but the government and the economic system, so why are we getting the brunt of it then?
"Economic Anxiety" isn't a good enough reason when some of Trump's biggest promises were to keep the brown menace out.

Let me tell you a brief story here. About 15-20 years ago (somewhere in there), two First Nations (Indigenous Canadian) men asked me for a cigarette or a dollar. I had nothing on me at the time. So they decided to take a "chunk out of a rich boy who wouldn't cough up," (they made their motives quite clear in their banter), and beat me up good - because of my demographic. But, I bet you don't even believe that legitimately happens to straight, cis, White males, do you?
