Jurassic World 2.
My 9-year old liked it. I was mildly amused at how the overall quality of plot has degenerated throughout the movies.

Almost all movies are like that now.

Crime and Punishment staring Peter Lorre.

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. :goodjob: I realize they cast Lorre because of his ability to portray inner turmoil, but I believe the lead should have been much more handsome. A pretty girl like Sophia falling for Lorre upon meeting him once just isn't believable. Also, the police inspector should have been much more spider like.

Other than the title, I knew nothing of the story going in. The psychological-thriller theme was mesmerizing.

And The Incredibles, surely?

I watched it recently while trying to find excuses to ignore my exams. So I might go and watch the new film if i find it on a kid-free time slot/venue.

Just watched a Netflix original called Anon with Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfreid. It was pretty good actually. The story was original and fresh, decently acted, and overall it was a reasonable use of an hour and thirty minutes.

At least it wasn't a bloody superhero movie or a sequel/franchise extension.

Hereditary (2018)

I didn't like it. Mostly because it
Spoiler :
apparently is not about a psychological explanation at all, but is some nu (and not as refined) version of Rosemary's baby.

I saw Annihilation. It was a great adaptation of the book; too bad it flopped as I would have watched the sequels. It's been long enough ago since I read the books that I don't remember a lot of the plot so I'm not sure how faithful it is to the plot but they nailed the general atmospherics of the books to a tee.

Kung Fu Hustle (2004)

This one was goofy fun. If anyone hasn't seen it, imagine a classic '70s-era Hong Kong kung-fu movie made using modern CGI tech, and including Looney Toons-type cartoon silliness, and multiple script- and visual nods to other movies (e.g. western movies like The Blues Brothers and The Matrix — and likely also HK movies which I didn't notice because I'm much less familiar with that genre).

I finally watched Liar Liar. Great movie. Definitely highlighted Carrey's facial expression range.

Do you ever have mild opinions about anything, Kyriakos?

Carrey sucks and he likely will be shown to be involved in some scandal sooner rather than later :)

That's great and all, but I reaaaaally don't care about an actor's personal life within the context of a film. I cared about this stuff when I was 8 years old, though.

The best range of facial expressions is Bruce Willis in Die Hard. I could watch the movie with the sound off and still have hours of fun just looking at his face change.

Ron Perlman :/

He used to be in serious films, like In the name of the Rose and City of Lost children :)
I like him, but he is mostly doing action-comedy now.

Ron Perlman is awesome. I'm more familiar with his newer stuff ie the old man Ron Perlman but he's still a badass. He's great in Sons of Anarchy and he has a show on Amazon called Hand of God where he plays a lawyer who has a breakdown and thinks he can hear the voice of god. I watched the first season and it was pretty good.

Also there is a hellboy reboot coming out soon. Won't have Ron Perlman sadly but it looks pretty awesome. It's going to be R rated as well I believe.

What happened to Amanda Seyfreid? She was in everything it seemed a few years ago and then just disappeared.

I watched a couple movies over the weekend- Star Trek Beyond and The Lost City of Z.

Star Trek Beyond was very typical big budget sci fi flick. I thought it was fine but not memorable. I liked into darkness better, but there was a decent plot twist. Just the sci fi explanations are getting more make stuff up as we go along kind of fantasy world stuff and the action sequences getting more and more unbelievable. Like they have these super advanced spaceships and in the end it's Kirk fighting hand to hand in zero G to determine the fate of the galaxy. Kind of dumb.

I liked The Lost City of Z quite a bit actually. It's about a British explorer who searches the Amazon for an ancient culture. I don't know how accurate it is, and clearly the ending is fictitious, that's all I can say without spoiling. The movie spans a lot of time, like 20 years as he goes on multiple expeditions and in between has to fight in WWI. Overall it's good, the only kind of weird part is Charlie Hunnans (the guy who plays Fawcet the explorer) accent. He is a native brit but sounds more like Jax from sons of anarchy trying to do a british accent. I kind of wonder if he spent so long playing an american his accent is no longer authentic. I'll have to go back and watch Green Street Hooligans to see what he sounded like back then.
