What is the fastest you have ever gone over the speed limit?

Maybe 10 - 15 mph over the limit.

My car wasn't capable of much more than that. Hit 70mph and the whole front dash would vibrate.

My car could only reach 98 MPH and that was on a 60 MPH zone so 38 MPH over the limit. Slightly unsober too xD Should of been dead a few times :P

120 mph in a 55, racing my friend home on I-95 at about 3 am the summer after High School.

Governor on my Sonata kicked in, but I still won the race, and she was in a Saab.

I was also more than slightly un-sober.

I've driven 150 mph on a road circuit with no speed limit, but the fastest I've driven on public highways is in the 120 mph range.

Back in the 80s, there was a Ferrari Century Club in the SF bay area which required a speeding ticket of over 100 mph to be able to join. Cops started getting wise to it and began issuing tickets for 99 mph when they suspected the person was doing so for that purpose. The highway patrolman who taught the level-2 school to get tickets expunged from your record so they didn't affect your insurance rates told us about it.

There was a similar club for motorcyclists. You had to travel Highway 9 from Skyline Drive to the Las Gatos city limits averaging 100 mph. Being an incredibly curvaceous mountain road, this required speeds well over 140 on the straights.

I'd say on interstates in the USA, doing 80mph and a 65mph zone is often just "keeping up with traffic". That doesn't hold for work zones, of course.

I've probably gone about 50mph over the speed limit, back when our highways were 65pmh tops. Now they're 70 and I'm not quite that idiotic. :)

In my Toyota I have driven 106 mph, but then the speed limiting governor kicks in and you can go no faster. That time I actually got busted (again going to Pahrump) by the highway patrol. My ticket was $500. I never driven over 100 mph since.

Hah, I did the same experiment in a Prius when I was driving on I-80 across the Bonneville Salt Flats in western Utah. It's so flat and deserted that I could see there weren't any cops within 5 miles of me. Same result: 106 mph. But I didn't get a ticket. :p

That's the only time I've ever driven over 100 mph; I generally go about 10 over the limit, but no more.

Fastest I've ever driven is about 170 kph on a 110 kph highway. Was fun, only going about 10 kph faster than the speed of traffic :p

In terms of breaking speed limits, I've done 60 or 70 in a parking lot before, where the speed limits are always 20, so that's likely the most I've gone over in terms of multiplicity.

I got my Jeep up to, according to my gps, 180kph (112mph) on the PA turnpike around 3 AM, before deciding that the PA turnpike was not the best place to test my tires. I feel confident I could have gotten it to 120-125 mph as I wasn't lacking for power at that point.

Going by my GPS since my speedometer seems to read ~2-3% slower than my actual speed (my GPS will give readouts in agreement with those unmanned radar signs that display your speed).

In my Toyota I have driven 106 mph, but then the speed limiting governor kicks in and you can go no faster. .

I rented a Matrix over the summer, which I can only assume was designed to be a fleet car since it had a PoS 3-speed automatic, I couldn't get it past 90 before it'd lose power. It was really unfortunate since I was driving the James Bay Road which is 400 miles of nothing but a single fuel station. No cops. No traffic (you'd pass a car going the other way maybe once an hour or so).

Thread needed this answer. You win delicious cake.

I did about 110MPH in a 60MPH zone while driving on I-25 in Eastern Wyoming. Yay for roadtrips with friends, and no cars on the road. :D

yeah the area where I was driving was flat, unfortunately it was night time, so I couldn't see the cop. He was at the Clark county/Nye county line. I should have known that too. Stupid me. They often put a speed trap right at the county line.

My car is a Corolla. As for your prious, I doubt you were getting good gas mileage at that speed. :D

all of you should be in jail. What's the next thread, "How many people have you murdered?" or perhaps "What illegal drugs have you taken?"
