What is the meaning of life, the universe and pretty much everything that exists?

Does the universe as a whole have any particular goal or purpose? If so, what is that goal or purpose for existing?

My own opinion is that the universe has no purpose and that the universe simply exists with no ultimate goal in mind. People themselves can decide what their meaning of life is, if they want to.

There is no meaning. The word "meaning" itself is meaningless. Homogenous distribution of thermal energy is as close as it will come. But despite that, if we can live good lives, then no matter what else the universe - and its eventual fate - will at least have played host to something worth having.
