Just want to give you a big honkin' :goodjob: for becoming a blood donar!

I don't know. But my aunt has a rare one, so much so that she's kinda always on call to donate a pint when needed.

That may be due to other factors in her blood as well... A, B, and D are the most common, and the ones identified by the blood type, but there's a whole alpahbet soup of other antigens that people can develop antibodies to.

As far as having your blood type on you in case of emergency... I've only ever seen uncrossmatched type-specific blood given after the blood bank just did the test (but before the crossmatch was complete)... otherwise it's uncrossmatched type O.

Don't have a bloody clue!

I've always wanted to know though, I should really find out.

its not so hard, go to a blood donor place, they feed you give you drinks (not booze) and stickers and other stuff and you get to find out what blood type you are, all for a pint of your thick stuff ;) apparantly (according to the simpsons) americans get paid for it.

I guiltily admit I do not actually know!

Not for donating blood for transfusion. There are plasma centers that pay, and the plasma is used by pharmaceutical companies to manufacture drugs.

If you want to donate blood for transfusion, you can contact the Red Cross. You can probably also get information from your local hospital's Blood Bank... some hospitals have their own Donor Centers. And there is almost always a need for blood donors of all types.

Positively O positive

I don't know what my blood type is.

I'm B+. I know no one who shares this blood type with me.
