Art is for everyone, which is why so many different types of it exist.
That said, i found nothing in this movie to make me believe that the script was being "simple" whereas the writer really had any ability to present something anywhere near less simple. The characters were horribly pseudo-heroic, and their quotes sounded idiotic (the refference to "medicine" sounded almost braindead, as if medication was something too complicated for the ape-like character to grasp...). Furthermore the presentation of men and women is beyond merely childish.
I do not agree that such a style deserves to exist as "comic". It is far more reasonable to assume that comic creators rarely are good writers, and this is why their scripts are so abysmal. Afterall it probably would be rare to have the same person be both a good writer and a good painter, but i still see no reason why he should be excused for his writing
