Still more historically accurate than U-571. :p

I been watching the old seasons of Spongebob

Man that show is good

Ehm... nevermind the rest of the crap in this show... the roman general asked his second-in command "do you remember when we were in Cairo"?

:rotfl:

The arab expansion happens in 7 centuries from your time, m8

You're aware that Aegyptus was a Roman province from the Battle of Actium (or thereabouts) and onwards? It is said that Augustus considered the wealth of Egypt to be his personal property.

Yeah, but there was no city called "Cairo" there until much later. As best I can tell from brief research Cairo started being called Cairo in the 900s.

Well, so they got the name wrong. There have been plenty of cities in the Delta, after all, and from what Kyriakos has said, that seems like the least of the historical issues with the series. :)

I have been watching Babylon Berlin while in bed. It's been an interesting experience thus far. Good casting. Not 100% on what the story is meant to be but it involves vice cops and Trotsky. :dunno:

Edit: Also, the English dub sucks, so watch it in its original language (German) with subtitles.

Altered Carbon is out by Netflix, based on the novel series. I liked the books well enough, we'll see if the show holds up. I'll probably binge it on the weekend.

Counterpart is also quite good at least for the 2 episodes that came out so far.

Thanks for the link, Kyriakos. I read all four pages. Only the last page was posted after the the series actually released. The first three were based on trailers and not all 9 episodes. I saw your posts there. :) I don't think anyone posting saw more than one or two episodes. I noticed the Cairo mention too; they could been just ignorant, or, they understood that Heliopolis would not have been recognized as being in Egypt by any of the audience. Most of the thread wasn't even about the show. Go watch it and then come back and complain. :)

Anyone here seen American Vandal? Was probably my favorite show from 2017, it's on Netflix. Really funny and unique, even thought-provoking by the end despite the absurd premise. Basically a satire of true crime documentaries.

Making my way through season 1 of Homeland, solid but hasn't quite gripped me yet.

Will check out Altered Carbon.

I've started watching Westworld. Thus far I am extremely impressed (just finished ep4)

It's not just merely using a name for the city from the wrong period. Cairo did not even exist at all back then. How hard could it be for them to put in Alexandria?

See the movie ;)

One would expect most people to be able to tell that 'Cairo' can't have been either an ancient egyptian, nor a hellenistic name. It just came across as a stupid lazyness - and, of course, none of the crew, actor, editors, producers, noticed such a glaring error :)
(the cockney general goes on for a while about Cairo, and mentions this 10th century AD named city a few times as well :p )

Moreover, the cosmopolitan general claimed that 'in Egypt' they just allied with some 'tribes' against other tribes.

Tbh the hard thing is to find anything in the show which isn't wrong.

I haven't seen it, so I can only comment based on what you lot have said so far.

^Maybe if one accepts this is a fantasy series - cause it is - it can be entertaining. At least there is some gore :)
Still, even as fantasy, it is pretty trite (up to ep2 at least).

Keep going.....The plot thickens and gets more complicated.

there will never be another show as good as twilight zone, will there? :aargh:

I liked black mirror, but sometimes the actors were unbelievably bad, sometimes the script was.

It has its highs and lows, but damn if the lows aren't 20.000 leagues below my standards.

Is anyone watching Electric Dreams?
I am. It's great as long as they don't redub the harsh language. That always winds up looking stupid and breaks the illusion for me. Great show though. It makes me want to read more Philip K. Dick stories.

I can remember Twilight Zone having some pretty bad misses... but its kind of an unfair comparison because its such an old show, so the effects are always going to be dated/corny, and in general, I detest black-and-white shows... Twilight Zone is actually one of the few shows that I like enough to suffer through the lack of colour.

Yaaa! Somebody else likes it :D. So now i wonder if you watched/liked Black Mirror as well?
