What TV Shows are you watching? ζ: The seventh-season itch

According to Wiki it's meant to be (mostly) the same characters as in the 2003(!) movie with Sam Jackson, Colin Ferrell and Michelle Rodriguez (which I've not seen) — which itself was an update/remake of the 70s TV series (ditto).

Had to go back a couple of threads to find what I wrote about it, first of all in this post here:

...followed later on by...

I have not, and likely will not, since we (still) don't have an HBO sub.
HBO Max is stupid expensive. I only subscribed last year because I found a 50% promotional offer.

It's November, so it's time for my sorta-monthly update to this thread...
Forgot to mention earlier, I also finished Nobody's Looking (Ninguém Tá Olhando in the original Brazilian-Portuguese) — given the central premise, I wonder if it might have been better translated as "Nobody's Watching"? (@Takhisis?) Started with the dubbed version, found out a couple of eps in that Netflix also offered original-audio-with-subtitles, which I generally prefer for non-English productions — even if in this particular case I did find the original actors' voices slightly more grating than their dubbed versions. Wasn't bad, but not much more than mildly amusing to jaded old me — maybe it was funnier/ edgier in Brazil...?

Now also finished Umbrella Academy S3. Not at all sure what to make of the season finale (What did the "Universe-reset-button" actually do? Alison's new reality/timeline has obviously undergone some major juggling, so is she now actually also in her idea of Heaven? And if so, are the remaining, now de-powered Umbrellas in Hargreeves' Hell?) — nor, given the aforementioned de-powering, where the writers think they'll be going for the "Final Season" which Netflix is already plugging.

Having watched S1:E1 a while back, then kinda put it to one side, I picked up Big Mouth again. (If one enjoys gross-out jokes about human anatomy, and puberty) It is very funny.

Also started Tales of the Jedi a couple of days ago (we approve), and The Dragon Prince S4 yesterday. While I do realise that the latter is a kids' show, I don't remember the previous seasons being quite as... erm... juvenile as S4:E1 was — especially considering that the new season is set 2 years after S3 ended. E2 was better, though.

Did you know that there are actual Brazilians on this forum, such as @Henri Christophe ?

The Patient on Hulu is an excellent 10 part drama.

In a world cup year? Even one is too much.

Def been meaning to check this one out....my Hulu sub has lapsed due to switch over at mobile provider....I now get Apple+ and Para+ for free and a huge discount on Netflix.

Anyway, saw The Inside Man last night - first epi. Read IMDB reviews first and they were rather quite mixed. It's kinda bonkers in a way, but I was thoroughly entertained by the first episode. Gotta overlook some holes for sure, but Tucci and Tennant are hard to pass up. It seems semi-serious drama ..almost a comedy in some respects.

We also have at least one Portuguese person in a pinch. :)

Just finished watching the first season of 2 of Modus (2015) based on Anne Holt's work.

And, to continue with the crime fiction, the second season of White Lotus started airing yesterday. Great choices both for the USian and the Italian halves of the cast.

Pieces of Her is an excellent (so far) crime drama. It's on Netflix and I'm 3 episodes in. Good stuff.

Archive 81 (Netflix)

This was mostly a great occult mystery series of 8 episodes. It has a satisfying ending, although I reckon they left it somewhat open ended, hoping for a follow up season to be greenlit by Netflix. Didn't happen. Somewhat reminiscent of Ira Levin's Rosemary's Baby and Polanki's The Tenant. Archive 81 works at its best when it ups the tension and mystery surrounding Melody Pendras' attempts to unravel rumored cult activities in the Visser apartment buildings in 1994s NY, beneath the parallel framing narrative of our present day Dan Turner attempting to figure out what happened when the complex burned down via video recording left behind by Melody. Both protagonists also have a very personal stake in finding out what happened at Visser and what's up with some of its more mysterious residents.

I do think there is too much repetition in the motions that both Melody and Dan go through and the main antagonists could have been developed better. Perhaps the creators intended to do this with a potential second season; we will never know. Sometimes, the video POV gimmick becomes exactly that - too gimmicky for the narrative, just as it is the case with almost all found footage horror films I've seen. I'm glad they only stick to using it in select passages.

I started watching Borgen (2010) this week. Funnily enough, yesterday a colleague asked me what would happen if neither party in the U.S. House of Representatives had a majority, with which to elect a Speaker of the House. Then I go home last night and watch the 2nd episode of Borgen, and that scenario was the entire episode.

I had to file a grievance over the ending of Archive 81. They clearly intended for there to be a 2nd season without knowing whether they'd get one, which in this day and age is just foolish, imo.

I suspect we might find ourselves in a similar predicament when The Nevers returns to the screen with its '2nd season'. Btw did you catch why it was called Archive 81? I must have missed it somehow.

Want to give Borgen another watch, perhaps next year. It's been almost a decade. I haven't watched the new season yet.

Are you people going to hold off on posting until somebody makes post #999? Because if so, here it is.

Rewatching The Closer now that Major Crimes is over; I suppose that they will be looped one after the other.
It's amazing how far-reaching the character arcs slowly got over the years while you can still also watch it as a crime-of-the-week show if you so like.

And this helps me recapture this thread earlier instead of wasting a day or two with you lot doing nothing.

I just haven't been watching much new. Andor has become fantastic, and I'm still just working on Coroner and It's Always Sunny.

I might finally commit to another Deep Space Nine rewatch shortly, though.
