What video games have you been playing V: the return of the subtitle

I ordered most of the DLC for CK2 yesterday - it was on sale. I'm seriously starting to love that game.

I have no idea how long I've spent playing CK II, as I play almost exclusively off-Steam. EU IV, however, I have 230 hours logged.

Just took a very difficult mission for XCOM Enemy Within. Said to myself, "How difficult could it be?"

Turns out there are enemies that can become invisible and strangle you. And they killed my support, and nearly offed my sniper. I rage quitted that mission. I will say this, it was one of my better battlefield performances.

Worse than the Chrysalids from the original game?

I came across an encounter with one giant lazer robot one super killer robot many other robots and 20 super steroid aliens and three super mindcontrolling aliens and probably a lot of other stuff I've forgotten and so I stopped playing :/

Yeah, those things will give you fits until you get the appropriate tech that allows your soldiers to detect them on the battlefield and resist their strangulation attack. In the mean time there is a small exploit that will allow you to see where they are on the battlefield: If they are within the movement range of your soldiers just look for the tiles that you should be able to move to but the game says you can't and boom, that's where they are. At that point you can either move away from them or toss a grenade in the area to damage them (I believe they uncloak if they take damage while cloaked, so if the grenade doesn't kill them, then your other soldiers will then be able to target them normally).

The invisible tentacle things are only a problem if they attack you at the same time as other aliens. If they're alone, then the moment they go invisible, group up your team as tight as possible and go on overwatch until they attack you and get shot to death the moment they decloak.

As PhroX says, I've found Overwatch to be the most effective way of dealing with the robot tentacle things.

I started a new game of XCOM: Enemy Unknown over the weekend. I'm fielding a squad in a mix of Titan and Archangel armors, with a mix of laser and plasma weapons. Mutons have been my biggest worry the last few missions. My first encounter with a Berzerker was when one of them burst out of the back of a big rig in a truck stop parking lot somewhere in Alberta and ran through 2 guys before we dropped it. That was my first KIA, a Mormon USAF Pararescuewoman nicknamed "Missionary" (I like to take the nicknames the game gives me and then figure out what the soldier's background of personality is).

Recently, the Mutons seem to have gotten smarter and are using hand grenades. Not very damaging, but with those big gorilla arms they can throw them farther than I thought and so now I have to spread out more. In my last mission before calling it a night, a Muton fired some kind of heavy plasma weapon at me. It missed and I didn't let him take a second shot. I'm still not sure what kind of gun it was, or what it would do if it hits.

I got back into KSP and am having a blast. Still kind of pissed about how poorly the game performs but apparently there is a big update in the works that will help. Not sure if they will finally get a 64-bit version though.

Also, all the old mods I had broke, including ones that helped with playability issues (like the enhanced navball) rather than giving new parts/abilities.

I managed one play through of Enemy Within, but on the PS3 the base defence mission is such an unplayable buggy mess that it's almost impossible to get through. It just constantly crashes and even the autosaves get corrupted. Ironman is literally impossible. It was such a chore to get through that I can't imagine ever playing through it again, but at the same time there are so many little improvements over Enemy Unknown that I can't imagine going back to that version now either. So I guess I'm done with that game now...

Hobbes, you need to get CKAN in your life.

I'm waiting until that patch to get back into KSP. Also waiting on patches for other games too like Darkest Dungeon.

So I just tried Guns of Icarus with a friend. Have to say that beyond the horrible interface it's actually kind of fun. I don't think I'll have fun playing it alone, but there's a certain charm in first person real time management of warships and gunning etc.

What is that?

Yeah I'm kind of in the same boat. I already stopped playing KSP after getting frustrated with it and I'm still waiting for Bethesda to fix my serious FO4 bug.
