What Video Games Have You Been Playing VI: Because There Are No Elections In Video Games

Omega, apparently. :p

Don't buy into Bioware's SjW propaganda. Alien space babes should be green.

Overwatch when friends are around. WoW or Civ when they are not.

But who doesn't like hot blue alien babes
*Raises hand*
If I want to read about lesbian space elves who also have a social-religious motivation to bang everyone they meet, I'll just read my friends fan fic.
I mean, props to BioWare for handling the Asari as well as they did, but you have so much cultural room to explore when you are limited to horny lesbian space elves.

That's horny genderless pansexual space elves that coincidentally look female to humans (and other alien species that look suspiciously human).
That's my biggest complaint about the Mass Effect verse. Almost all intelligent species have the standard humanoid limb-torso-head configuration. It's understandable in older movies and TV shows where special effects werent that advanced, but in a video game it's just so trite.

Of the 16 or so species, four (the hanar, elcor, rachni and Leviathans) are definitely not humanoid. The others are presumably explained by the principle of convergent evolution.

The Elcor may not be strictly humanoid because of their very hunched over gorilla stance, but they still have four limbs that function as legs and arms and they have a recognizable head with two eyes where a human's eyes would be. The most alien thing about them is their "mouth", otherwise they look like something that could have evolved on earth and isn't much further removed from us than primates.
I don't know if I buy convergent evolution with species that evolved on different planets. It's just taxing my suspension of disbelief.
And then they even have humanoids running around in the Andromeda galaxy.
I want land squids with eyes on every side or trisymetrical crawlies with no eyes at all.
Not that I dislike Mass Effect. It's one of my favorite franchises. But the alien design is playing far too safe.

I like humans, not aliens. Hell the only reason I use the space elf portrait is because of the blue hair. I would use humans otherwise.

My lesbian space elves are materialistic thank you very much :smug:

Joking aside, you do realize Mass Effect is a deliberate callback to those old space opera shows, right? It is, at the end of the day, supposed to feel like Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica in video game form, with some Halo influences as well. Point is, complaining about Mass Effect being space opera-y with its alien designs is like complaining the Witcher feels like a fantasy novel

Well, yeah. Still bothers me that there aren't more weird intelligent creatures.
There's plenty of space operas with very alien aliens. The're just in book form because books (AND VIDEO GAMES!!!!) don't have the same limitations as film.

There are also other species described but never seen that aren't humanoid. The Raloi, for example, are described as being a distinctly avian species. There's also the "virtual aliens" that are described as being a species that has no physical body because they all downloaded their consciousness into a virtual world to save themselves from going extinct.

Honestly that is grounds for a divorce. Your wife has crap taste.

Agreed. Even if you don't consider Miranda's looks, her personality makes her completely unlikable. Her constant complaining about her genetic engineering comes off (to me at least) like a billionaire whining about how having so much money makes their life difficult.

A particularly beautiful day here in the central Philippines inspired me to bring out Sims3, Island Paradise. I created a stay-at-home/novelist dad, a scientist mom, a brainiact teenage daughter, and an athletic son. I bought a ready-made house for them, a structure created from three side-by-side shipping containers.

I've been going through a bit of a resurgence when it comes to playing games lately.

On the idle-clicker front, I've been playing Guild Quest and Tap Tap Infinity. I also reset my game and restarted Time Clickers.

On the actual games front, I've been playing Rebel Galaxy, Civilization 4, Red Alert 2, and Sims 2 with all the expansions. I'm not sure how to feel about the latter; the expansions are a little confusing, change the music, and massively bloat the load times. It's the Ultimate Edition, though, so I can't get rid of any of the packs AFAIK.

Over the weekend I reinstalled Empire Total War with DarthMod's final addition. I think the mod's best contribution are the real musket sounds. I just love the sounds of 18th-Century weapons. And there's something satisfying about seeing a volley of 6-pound cannonballs throw curtains of earth up into the air.

I started a game as Prussia, took Dresden and Gdansk in short order, nothing fancy there. I was drumming fingers on my desk trying to decide where to go next when Hannover declared war on me. That was nice of them, sorting things out for me like that.

SQUAD just updated some content and my god is it glorious.

That hydraulics mini-game for Cesar Vialpando is harder than Dark Souls. Thank goodness it's done with. Really enjoying the return to 3D GTA. Worthwhile side activities and good rewards. What a concept!

Trying to get into Mass Effect Andromeda again after playing through the original trilogy. Thought doing that would get me hyped enough to sit through Andromeda, but it seems to be having the opposite effect. With the original trilogy fresh in my mind, the nagging voice that keeps saying "the trilogy did this better/did that better" just keeps getting louder and louder. Even my wife finds Andromeda to be boring to watch and she finds Ryder to be a completely unlikable protagonist no matter what type of responses I choose for dialog. In her opinion, Ryder is a "weird-faced, whiny *****" and is "nowhere near as cool as Shepard." When I told her that's kinda how the developers intended it because they wanted a protagonist that wasn't already a hero like Shepard she just responded with "I don't care, Ryder sucks. Bring back Shepard." At this rate, I'm probably just going to give up entirely on Andromeda and just watch a Let's Play on YouTube for the story.

Oddly enough, playing Andromeda did put me in the mood to play Civilization: Beyond Earth again, so I'm playing that as well. Playing as ARC and going for an Emancipation victory which will be a bit of a change since I usually just go for Domination victories.

Having quite a bit of fun with Battle Brothers.
It is a bit like Mount&Blade with turn-based battles on a hexagrid.
