In case of a minimum wage natural market dynamics can be viewed as an external factor. They are a given fact of life and one can just hope that it will interact with a given minimum wage in a desirable way.

In case of a basic income on the other hand, the basic income is the fact of life and natural market dynamics will have to adapt to it.

It presents us with an easy tool to fundamentally alter our economies without touching the principle rules of a market economy. That is the fundamental psychological appeal the idea of a basic income has to me.

Food and fuel, generally round these parts. Probably there too. Fuel being especially problematic in the cold and food being especially problematic for the non-wealthy-enough.

With the caveat that big macs are made pretty differently in different countries. But the Big Mac Index is still a great way of measuring purchasing power parity.

Well, Quarter Pounders in the Netherlands have been costing as much Big Mac's, which was never the case a few years back. (And yes, we call them Quarter Pounders, despite of the metric system and not 'Royal Cheese')
