What would your D&D alignment be?

Chaotic neutral could probably justify any course of action in that scenario really, the only alignment impetus is hostility towards those impinging and limiting his choice of options, probably the captors unless his party limits him more.

I suppose if the CN had strong emotional attachment too, they could save the party members. But my opinion is that CNs would value themselves and their own survival over anyone elses.

Except of course Chaotic Neutral is not Chaotic Evil, unlike what many many people would apparently have you believe.

I was kinda hoping that was going to be one of those college kids giving tude to immigration checkpoints. Those are fun! Though I suppose I might actually watch BB one of these years too. :p

A chaotic evil would be a psychopath that enjoys killing people. Neutral Evil tend to follow 'an eye for an eye' personality, if someone harms, or tries to kill them, they would burn that persons whole home and family down (Viconia). Or maybe that would be 'an eye for your families lives'. Lawful Evil would kill only if doing so was lawful, but would love to live among, or rule nazi Germany or North Korea as persons with governmental / lawful power, or even among extremist sharia governments, and they can function fine in peaceful governments as those westborro / landover Baptist / neo nazi groups.

Chaotic Neutrals do not have any desire to kill or have other people suffer, however they simply dont care much about suffering that already happens due to means outside their control. However if I was world leader, I would be corrupted by power and nuke the world.

Yeah, that's my point.

A chaotic neutral character follows his whims. He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but doesn't strive to protect others' freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. A chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. To do so, he would have to be motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those different from himself suffer). A chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it.

Chaotic neutral is the best alignment you can be because it represents true freedom from both society's restrictions and a do-gooder's zeal.

Chaotic neutral can be a dangerous alignment when it seeks to eliminate all authority, harmony, and order in society.

From the same site:

Chaotic Evil, Chaotic Neutral, and Chaotic Good

Freedom means a different thing to characters of these three alignments. For the chaotic neutral character, freedom means the freedom for all beings to pursue their own self-interest without interference from authority. The chaotic neutral character realizes that there will be chances for both conflict and cooperation, but they will always seek to advance their own self-interest. They believe in the right of all beings to do what they themselves are doing (namely, pursuing self-interest). If others are advanced while the chaotic neutral character is advancing himself, this is fine. If others are diminished when he is pursuing his own interest, so be it. He will help people that help him and harm people that harm him. The chaotic good character believes that freedom means the freedom for each individual to find his own way to promote happiness and prosperity in the world. He feels that the best way to promote goodness and weal for all is to provide the most freedom. The chaotic good character wants everyone to enjoy the same right to pursue happiness as freely as possible. Chaotic evil characters believe that freedom means the freedom to take whatever action is necessary to advance the self. In the eyes of the chaotic evil character, an important way of maximizing personal freedom is to minimize the opportunity for others to pursue their own self-interest. Thus, the chaotic evil character wants maximum freedom for himself, but minimum freedom and power for everyone else. The chaotic neutral character wants maximum freedom for everyone to pursue their own ends (for good or ill). The chaotic good character wants maximum freedom for everyone to find happiness and prosperity.

Lawful anal. I think that's what it is called.
And here I am, bursting out in laughter. I am a man-child.

Anyway:
I just took this test. And taking it, I remembered taking it before, but not my result.
And this test took way too long. But I wanted to procrastinate.

Result:
You are 44.4% Good.
You are 15.4% Chaotic.
Alignment: Neutral Good

You do the best good that a person could be expected to do. You are devoted to helping others. You are willing to work with authority figures, but you do not feel any particular allegiance to them.
You are the stereotypical “Benefactor.” You believe in doing good without any particular bias for or against order.
Examples of charactersand people who fit into the same alignment as you include Mother Theresa, Ghandi, Gandalf, Indiana Jones, O-Bi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Harry Potter, Frodo Baggins, and the Dalai Lama.

What a waste of time
