When did feminism go completely crazy?

Males are a dominant group yes. But that dominant status also interacts quite complicatedly with a host of other statuses. For example, let's take a look at the poor black male. He is a male, a part of a privileged class. But his blackness mars his privilege as a male and it adds a strange extra effect on him- to whites, he reminds them of the stereotypical thug. Thus his male privilege adds a negative stereotype onto him. It is also the same reason that you can't look at a black female and separate her femaleness from her blackness. She's experienced sexism and racism but probably in different ways from which a white woman has experienced sexism, or way from which a black man has experienced racism.

I'm just saying things are more complicated then you make them out to be. A rich white women is not underprivileged compared to a poor black male. Or at least, I don't think that is how it works.
The hell does this have to do with anything I've said?

We have a winner, folks.

Is it worth summarizing? I loathe that show.

It wasn't an editorial piece as much a satire piece. Regardless, the gist is that manspreading is a courtesy issue, not a battle of the sexes issue. The show pokes fun at how MRAs have taken up the banner that it is a sex issue.

Oh go stuff it.

I wish I hadn't said that. Or, rather, I wish I hadn't directed that solely at Commodore.

Spreading out on public transit isn't a battle of the sexes issue and anyone who presents it as such is dead wrong. Men are just as inconvenienced by manspreading as women and women are put out just as much by other women placing their purses on an adjacent seat at men.

I want to tell everyone who frames the issue as a battle of the sexes to stuff it regardless of their broader political and social ideologies. If a feminist things this is an issue of male privilege then she's wrong just as a man is wrong for thinking this is a mainstream feminist position.

That's actually the exact point the video I posted was making.

My point is that the video makes a point which isn't worth making. Somebody complains about men spreading their legs on public transport really doesn't warrant any comment at all, imo. Mind you it's probably not worth my while saying this either.

And therein lies the greatest problem with the internet in terms of its effect on political and social discourse. The internet allows every little trivial issue someone has to get worldwide exposure and divert attention away from the real problems in the world.

You say it's not about the sexes... yet keep calling it manspreading. Hmm.

So what does this have to do with feminism being intellectually bankrupt?

The fact that some extremists in the feminist movement are trying to portray this as a man-centric behavior and a passive-aggressive way for men to exert their dominance over women on the subway.

The video even quoted an article that specifically stated "there is no worse man-centric behavior than manspreading on the subway."

So one crazy person belittles an entire movement?

Yeah, but without him we wouldn't have the fantastic white boy reggae band John Brown's Body.

Hey man, some people need their fill of Hermione Granger straight from English 101 class to show how easy it really is. Just show up to a government building one day to get your paycheck from speaking!

Look up manspreading and you will see it's a lot more than just one person who thinks this is a problem.

I know it's hard to accept that such idiocy could be involved with a cause you support, but that's just an unfortunate fact of life. That element of idiocy is present in just about every social movement and political ideology; which is yet another reason why I avoid supporting those causes or ideologies unless there is a way I can personally gain from it.
