The Reiter has a problem with fitting within the game. It's too late to be Knoght replacement and too early to be Cavalry replacement. It could be a Renaissance unit on its own, but requires some significant uniqueness for this role.
wait., what about Spain UU in civ5, isn't Conquistador a in-between a knight and a cavalry? therefore the Reiter could work
EDIT: and still a UU of Spain this time..

I think that in civ 6 the Conquistador will be a unit on foot, by the concept of art of the Conquistador.

I agree. Although, I am leaning more towards a musketman type rather than an explorer lately.

I never said it was obvious; I did not notice it.

This is off topic but it's fair to say that the vast majority of people who ever watched that video probably didn't notice it. I myself actually had to watch the video three times after it was pointed out just to find it.... and I'm over here calculating the rate of science per pop and figuring out the amenities mechanic all based off of let's play footage.

We noticed because someone who analyzes stuff grain by grain found it. As to your point of the devs noticing it - entirely possible they did catch it and didn't think anything would come from it due to the distance and resolution. That said, I don't think it was or wasn't a leak. But no one but firaxis has the capacity to say definitively one way or the other.

The solution to that would be to make it a cavalry replacement that comes earlier than other cavalry as part of it's bonus. But I don't think what you said about being an individual renaissance unit on it's own being true. The Redcoats come in between Muskteman and Infantry in the industrial era at military science and they're comparitively all by themselves. (as far as we know).

They could treat the Reiter the same way as the redcoat in terms of placement.

I bet the next civ revealed will be one with a leader correctly guessed by Civfanatics. So far Catherine de Medici, Pedro II and Tomyris were all correctly identified by us.

The unidentified civ leaders will be revealed much later, probably in October.

With the Olympics in full swing I think it was very highly expected to see Greece and Rome this week. Spain, known for their love of the arena(the Bullfight), and Russia, known for their performances in the games, were expected to follow. The Scythia introduction puts quite a wrench into that speculation. Still it is believed that Tomyris is an inspiration to Amazon warriors. That at least sort of keeps wih a Rio theme. And Tomyris might be an ode to the female athletes. So I'll stick with the expectation that Greece and Rome are soon to be revealed.

Those issues will always exist and best just ignore them.
I mean the Redcoat is technically a unit that should be between musketmen and infantry but replaces the former.
In Civ5 we had the Cataphract in a similar spot where it ended up a horseman replacement. So the Reiter would just work best as a knight replacement.

Sadly my hopes of a Garde/Leib Grenadier UU wearing the classic 18th century German uniform won't happen since France and England already have musketmen replacements.

Considering that 2/3 of the remaining civs are European I would guess one of those. I could imagine they might try to space the non-Euros out in an attempt to seem less Eurocentric.

Sounds sensible. Off course, some of the European civs will likely be DLC, so those might be the last to be revealed.

Considering Tomyris / Scythia was entirely out of left field and a leader many people knew nothing about, I'd say the next leader / civilization revealed with either be one that we know almost nothing (or very little) about or one that everyone is familiar with.

In the gameplays we saw that the redcoat was unblocked with a tegnologia of the industrial age and does not replace to a standard unit; and something similar happened with samurai. I think there are units that do not replace to a standard unit.

I'm expecting some modern (not ancient) civ: Russia or maybe Germany.

My friend in Maryland sent me this, claiming he got it from his cousin (video editor at Firaxis), is it real?

Could be. From the portrait map, we know Sumerian is in.

Really? Awesome! Does that mean we could see Sumer tomorrow then?

Not really. I expect that there are videos for all the civs in various states of completion.

The Trajan screenshot, which is pretty damn clear to be Trajan, and undoubtedly Roman, could also be considered a 'leak' since the leader and civ hadn't been officially announced (still haven't been?). There is no way that shot went overlooked. So there is precedence there for purposeful leaks in that video. Not saying the civet board wasn't just overlooked, it's far less obvious than the Trajan screenshot, just saying it's not impossible that it was purposely left in.

Speaking of Rome, the same friend just sent me this too:

Could his friend be breaking an NDA or something by sending these?
