Which television shows are you watching? Part III

I watched all of the new Twilight Zone (by Jordan Peel & co) in a matter of two days. I think it's brilliant. They tried incredibly hard to do the show justice and pulled it off well. Not all episodes were equally great, but some were real homeruns. I especially loved the new spin on the airplane episode and "a traveler".

Are there any new plots/episodes or is this a remake?

Few of the episodes are remakes, almost all of them are entirely new ones

Arrow S7 was a complete mess. 4.5/10.

S5 of The Flash is only marginally better, but I still have 9 episodes or so to go.

S4 of Supergirl is alright. The strongest of the series now.

After I complete those two seasons, I'll be completely caught up on CW DC shows and I can not only start watching other things again but I'll be just on time for Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Since I abandoned Legends of Tomorrow, and since I'm done Arrow, I can finally unsubscribe from Crave. There are a handful of shows on there that I do want to watch in the future, but I have a major backlog on Netflix and I might give in and watch The Mandalorian since I keep seeing pictures of a cute wittle baby.

The 2nd episode of the Mandalorian was much better than the first. Probably the most sparse 40 minutes of Star Wars like ever. So little dialogue, long shots of the environment, and violence that was surprisingly violent. They're leaning hard into the spaghetti western feel. Also:

Spoiler :
Yes the baby is the most adorable

I suppose that the dubbers for The Rookie S2 must have hit a snag or something, because two weeks ago they ended the rerun of S1 that was supposed to lead up to S2 and now they've started again with S1.

The latest season of The Flash is fantastic so far. The only thing I haven't liked is the Chester subplot. Everything else has been great.

Hm, I tried to watch the new Twilight zone tv series.

Why exactly is it so blatant in its anti-Russia sentiment? Eg ep2 "F_ Moscow" and ep4 "Russia only builds crap, you know that".

I managed to watch 3 episodes. Of those ep1 was the better one, but imo still forgettable and bizarre in a bad way. Ep2 (the remake of the airplane episode) was imo very poor. Ep4... WTH? :) First of all it makes no sense that aliens would care about a stupid airspace station in Alaska, as if their invasion was resting on that being incapacitated. Secondly, why enter hatred of Russia in that?

I think this series is just bad. At least the original Twilight Zone had memorable episodes. Ok, maybe the rest of the series is better, but I gave up after what I saw :)

Caught up on the latest season of Supergirl. The character assassination they've done on Lena Luthor pisses me off. I can also tell they're going to force a romance between two characters again where it just doesn't make sense. It's annoying because the season is actually really good except for those things. The Lena thing in particular is just awful. CW writers will do how CW writers do. But I still hate it.

I tried the latest season of Arrow. Nope. Garbage. Not even going to bother. I hear they're making a Canary spin-off? Zero interest.

So I tried the first episode of Batwoman. With Legends and Arrow now permanently off the consideration list for me, I obviously need to replace them with other CW shows.

Alas, Ruby Rose is still an awful actor. And she has the gait of someone fresh out of a hip replacement who is trying to pass it off as a badass swagger. Okay, that's unfair, but she has this walk in everything she's in. Ruby Rose plays Ruby Rose, and Ruby Rose just isn't a good character. She has absolutely no emotional range. At least with people like Will Smith they have a certain charisma, but Ruby might as well be a cardboard cutout. I just do not understand the hype surrounding her. A strong female lead doesn't need to be so robotic, and CW is more than capable of making good casting decisions. Pretty much all the casting decisions for Supergirl are cash money. There has to be something about Ruby I'm missing.

Anyways, Batwoman sucks. Don't watch it.

Season 3 of The Dragon Prince was perfect. Highly, highly recommend this series. I'm giving it a 9.5/10. I take off half a point because there's so little of it. You can watch the entire season in a single night. Actual substance is a 10/10. Literally no complaints about characters, pacing, plot, any of it.

I started another life lololololololololol

So bad it's good
That's the thing with Katie Sackhoff (sp?), right? My wife watched the first episode when it first showed up on our Netflix about 3 months back, and said it wasn't worth it.

We finished Big Bang Theory S11 last week. Also last week, Mars S2 showed up, so we're now watching that. Not quite as much of a blatant plug for SpaceX this time round (though Musk is still chipping in now and again). Surprised you haven't mentioned it, Hobbs? (Or did you and I missed it?)

Also currently in progress (for me):

Luke Cage S1 (having put it on pause while I caught up with Daredevil S2; will probably skip Iron Fist and start on Defenders afterwards, per @EgonSpengler's recommendation)
iZombie S2
Avatar:TLA S1
Black Lagoon S1
Mr Iglesias S1

Still have Archer on my 'Continue watching' list, but it got tiresome pretty quickly: really not understanding how it ended up getting 10 seasons (or whatever). Same goes for Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Watched first episode from Hernán in Amazon Prime, IMHO boring and slow paced. Won't continue seeing for a while.

Also started with Carnival Row. It has my complete atention for next days

I feel the same way. I've seen a couple of positive reviews of Rose's performance and I wondered if they were watching the same show that I was. Maybe they were her friends, or something.

What did you think of Black Lightning? I liked the first season, but I haven't swung back around to the second.

I haven't started season 2 yet, but I liked season 1. I did think the SpaceX storyline was a little overmuch and wouldn't miss it if they cut back.

I think I read somewhere they've started filming season 2, so next Summer seems likely. I'd guess that show has more post-production than a lot of movies.

I can't remember how S1 broke down, but S2 seems to be a bit less focused on just getting to Mars (and who might take us there!), and more about what we might actually (want to) do when we get there (e.g. environmental protection/research vs. industrial resource-extraction, space treaties, etc.).

There's still relevant real-world asides, but this season is set 5(?) years down the line, and is more focused on the dramatisation than I remember the first season being, while still illustrating what problems/considerations may arise.
Spoiler Relevant example, but no need to reveal it directly :
The science-base doctor was homesick and put in for transfer back to Earth (without telling her lover), but then discovered that she was unexpectedly pregnant during her health-check. She decides to go through with it, but because the trip back would have taken 7 months and subjected them both to increased radiation-exposure, she figured the baby would have a greater probability of survival if she stays on Mars.

Yup, that was the one and it was is laughably bad.

I saw the very first episode of that series but didn't really care for it to be honest. :dunno: Maybe I should give it another chance?

Is this a re-watch or a first-time viewing? Avatar is great. I know many don't agree, but so is Korra.

Once you're through with those, may I peddle The Dragon Prince, sir? Same writers as the above. :groucho:

And you can watch it with your kids, if that matters.

Same here. I thought the main character was very attractive, but the plot wasn't the best and the mirroring of Arrow's family dynamic wasn't compelling in Arrow and definitely wasn't compelling in Black Lightning. I don't want to say the cast is bad since they all did fine enough in their roles. It just wasn't... I dunno. I liked it, but I watched it when it was just the first season and never bothered catching up once it started again. I didn't feel a major urge to find out what happens out. He is going to be in Crisis, right? I suppose I should catch up after I finish doing the same with The End of the F***ing World...

I thought last night's Watchmen was an incredibly interesting episode.

I haven't really been on the walking dead train for the last two seasons, but I still catch them on demand at my leisure. This season started off laughably bad but it quickly turn it around and actually got interesting at the end. I'm more interested in the second half of the season than I have been in a long while. I breezed through the 8 episodes in 4 nights.

I haven't watched since Negan stood in the open in front of a barrage of like 20 people with assault rifles and just sauntered away a-okay. So, two? three? years ago.

I bet he's still alive. He's alive, isn't he? I don't mind being spoiled.
